can Galdiolus bulbs dry out and/or go bad if not planted?

My husband and I purchased a ton of Gladiolus bulbs at great prices at the end of the season last year. We had every intention of planting them but never actually got around to it.

The bulbs were purchased in bulk (packages of 30) from a local Menards, they are not from a nursery.

My question is.... I am wondering since the bulbs were not planted last year and they were stored in our garage all winter long, did they go bad or can they go bad? Are they still viable? I cut one in half and it was black on the inside. I am not familiar with bulbs and wasn't sure if this was normal.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Cori
