Daffodils didn't come up
Comments (14)It may make more sense just to repurchase new bulbs each year. Forced bulbs - those that are typically offered as containerized plantings - are more difficult to achieve a satisfactory rebloom from than are fresh, new bulbs, especially if they cannot go through a normal inground vernalization process. And while your climate is ideal for a lot of things, it is just not well-suited to most spring flowering bulbs......you are going to have to go to some extra work :-) Some vendors offer pre-chilled bulbs that are ready to plant in warm climates or you can go through the chilling process yourself in a refrigerator. Most spring flowering bulbs needs around 12 weeks of cold. And you need to avoid storing with any fruits or vegetables that can emit ethylene gasses that destroy flowering. Do some searching on spring flowering bulbs for warmer climates - most will have tips on best varieties as well as how to go about the chilling process....See MoreDidn't know this about UPS
Comments (4)My daughter was sending my granddaughter's replacement social security card and some other paper via UPS and didn't want it delivered to her new apartment, not being sure what the correct procedure was there, so she had her pick it up at the UPS office, which is just down the block. That cost $5 extra!...See MorePlanted bulbs last fall didn't come up this season?
Comments (3)Different types of peonies grow at different rates and the size of the root when planted makes a big difference, too. Most of the bagged roots from Walmart, Lowe's, etc take 3 or more years to bloom in my experience. Those are normally pretty robust types though so when they finally do "leap" you'll be pleasantly surprised! In your zone the eyes should be planted just below the soil so they have the best chance to chill during winter. Good luck, hopefully next spring will be your time to get blooms!...See MoreMy beets didn't bulb
Comments (12)Here in Va (the sweet spot ;) I plant beet seed Aug 20-27th, it's a short window here for most fall crops for max production before the days get too short and nite temps reach down into the 20's. Planted beet seed approx 60 days before first expected freeze. Not sure how your daylite hours are in z-5 latitude but suspect that they're shorter than mine by a bit. I picked some beets 10 days ago and finished picking them today now that 20's are here at night. Many smaller ones remain but they never amount to much (the bulbs) other than blooming the following spring. eta, have to admit that spring/summer grown beets are generally larger in size compared to a late fall harvest of late seeded beets....See Moreflower_up
