Good intentions for boxes of bulbs

In her ideal plan, my spouse equivalent would have planted the dozens of bulbs she bought last winter very early in the spring. In reality, we were still thinking about snow when spring arrived--we're used to the Boston climate, and this is our first year in the south-central washington desert. So we have countless bulbs--mainly lillies, but i'm sure other flowers are well represented--sitting in the garage. Our neighbors' bulbs have sprouted and flowered already. I think my SE is content to forget about these until some indeterminate later time, but i want to plan out the fate of these bulbs a little better: do we leave them in the box until the fall or next spring, or can we still put them in the ground now (last chance of frost is still 2 weeks away) for flowers next spring? thanks!
