Jason, Not sure I remember it has been a few months,I'm far from a source of good info on these. I believe I planted them slightly under the surface of the ground and from what I see that is common for rhizomes........at least my ginger are grown that way too....someone please correct me if I'm wrong ;-) Actually my ginger is on top of the soil, half buried. I do favor iris and since these were "special" they are close to my front door as you can see. This is the north side of the house and they won't get full sun but I'm hoping they'll get enough. I know they are not languishing even in winter, they look really good. Yes my soil is fairly sandy, isn't all of Florida, haha? The hardest part is figuring out how to put all the plants I love close to my front door.... Darren

They get plenty of sun. I had iris in this bed before, but they died from rot in the year we had el nino. It didn't stop raining all summer. This bed backs up to the compost pile and I have to occasionally add iron to it, as the Sweet Autumn clematis sometimes gets iron chlorosis (sp?). So, nutrition can be a problem in this bed. I was sure that the rhizomes were large, but some are not. I just checked the ones on the end and they feel pretty small, but I'm just feeling as best I can without digging them up. My yard guy also added compost on top of the rhizomes when he was here last. I'll have to get him to remove it Tuesday. I don't think that's a factor, though, as he only did it last week. So once I get the compost off the top of them, I can check to see if they are as small as they seem. What can I do to grow the rhizhomes, if that's a factor? (Wow, the foliage is so large and green, I would not have guessed the rhizomes weren't mature size.) bkay

You've found out first hand why many people in cold winter areas do not like rebloomers. Do you know their names? Then we can look them up and see if they are listed as rebloomers. Perhaps you can trade them. Often tall beardeds take 3 years to settle in. Some even longer!

You might be taking too good care of them. I have an noid that I put in the flower bed in our drive way and never did anything to it for five years except water it and it bloomed like crazy. It was so over crowded I had hard time getting it separated. Now that I separated it I only got two blooms from it. Some iris thrive on neglect. How often do you water them? I only water my iris once a week here in sunny California. They are drought resistant after they have established themselves. They originated from a region where there is no rain in the summer just like here in California.
