I didn't buy any last season, and haven't for years now. The ones I have bought in the past (daffs anyway) have done wonderfully. They have multiplied so many times over the years.

Most of my purchases last fall were from end-of-season sales, but I got them all in the ground by the second week in December. They seem to all be doing fine--I've got so many bulbs planted in the garden overall that it's getting hard to tell what's what, what failed, and what didn't.

I planted 300 tulips, probably close to 75 hyacinth and who knows how many purple muscari? Dafs, paper whites, freesia...all at 75% off prices.

I got some surprises with some of the tulips...I know some colors that came up were NOT on the package....but still beautiful.

My freesia and many of the daffodils came up very very late

They certainly weren't discounted but out of 12 "Woodstock" Hyacinth only ONE came out advertised Maroon color. Out of 6 "City of Haarlem" none were advertised pale Yellow color.

Disappointed with "color combo" plans gone amiss but more than overcome with their fragrance.

Those purple tulips are gorgeous.

Rjinga...don't you have any deer or rabbits who get at your flowers? Most of my tulips went into containers. Ones I planted in ground got the heck sprayed out of them with critter repellants. None were eaten but most of tulips in ground haven't bloomed yet.

My late season discount impulse purchases have been about half bloomers. Don't know if I should toss ones that didn't bloom or hope for next year. Don't think it's worth saving them since don't even know what color or form they are and won't leave in garden since I already have misplaced bulb plantings! Guess I could plant them in some out of the way place and take what comes. A surprise flower or two in an unexpected place out back would be a welcome sight next spring.

Amazing what one doesn't know with first year attempts even after reading what I could. Procrastination is not a gardener's friend...planning is.

The hyacinths look great, I can almost smell them now! it looks like you had great success with the bargains.

So far mine are also doing good. I only got some crocus, yellow daffs, mini daffs and a few tulips. I think I spent $7 dollars total. Everything is coming up and the crocus have already bloomed nicely. The daffs should be next.

I don't know if these count as discount bulbs or not, but they came from Menard's late in the season. They have been the best bulbs I've ever had from anywhere. This was the 2nd spring and the hyacinths were huge. Tulips have all multiplied. I will be sure to visit this place again this fall, even if I have to drive 250 miles again. I can't say enough good things about them.

The red plants behind the tulips are fire power nandina (dwarf) they dont spread and I have them planted about 2 or 3 feet apart, their full grown width. I do plant annuals as I see empty spots :) but to tell you the truth, I have so much that comes back every year...there are not too many empty spots.

I tell you those hyacinth were heavenly...one day I was out taking pictures of them, sitting on my walkway and I just sat there and breathed them in....there is nothing sweeter to me.

flowergirl70ks, I also shop at Menard's for bulbs! I have bought so many from them. It's just a hardware store, but I try to check them out several times a year for bulbs. Lilies and summer bulbs too, not just fall planted bulbs. (Of course with some of the summer items waiting until a sale may not be the right choice as you will not get any bloom from a late planted lily then.)

I've got beautiful stands of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and most everything I bought, whether early at regular price, or later at a discount! I'm very impressed!

I can see that I'll need to buy more bulbs next fall so other areas of my gardens will look just as gorgeous!
