slicing bulbs to grow more?- and tulip?

cheerpeople

I was reading in a book that was printed recently that certain

bulbs could be propagated by slicing thru them as long as each

slice was attached to a small piece of basal plate. The book said

you could slice a bulb into 8 sections! --But it would decrease

potential to survive with the more you cut it.

Anyway try as i might--- I could not find that section in the book

again before it had to leave town and go back to it's home library.- but I think the author was

talking about lycoris??

***Curious what bulbs can be sliced in your experienced and

work out. ????*****

I know my lycoris squamigera can survive unintentional slicing

with the shovel! I know that allium do not tolerate slicing or

poking wth a pitch folk- just up and die.

So that's my first question.***

Also curious what types of tulips (if any) can survive zone 5

without digging up and actually multiply ( naturalize) rather than

die out?

Are there ANY?

thx!

Karen
