hawk problems
Comments (4)I have hawks that show up and go after 'my' squirrels and birds and such. The hawks are beautiful, but... well, I wish they'd move along and hunt elsewhere. I keep a very loud, shrill push-button electronic whistle attached to my purse, and it has worked in out-shrieking hawks when I see or hear one perched overhead. It's a personal security alarm gadget -- I'll find the link to same and post it below. Also, if I feel threatened by a bold hawk, I wear a hat if I have to walk under it...they've been known to attack some people if they feel so inclined. Re the link: I don't think this is the same site that I bought my whistle from, but what I have is like the 'Item HP-388.' Oh... I'll add this... the whistle has also helped me scare away some kind of critter that was inside the walls of the house. (I know they'll never really be gone, but... I want them to know it's not THEIR place!) Here is a link that might be useful: whistle to shoo away hawks...See Morelooks lke a dove/pigeon?
Comments (3)Since no one's responding to this I guess no one really knows what it is. It is big, but it does look like it is in the pigeon/dove family. It could be some kind of pigeon or dove with leucism (partial albinism). Sure is interesting looking, especially the yellow eyes. Sorry not a lot of help. Does she live in the city where there are a lot of pigeons, or out in the country with a ton of doves?...See Moredoves vs. pigeons ?
Comments (3)In addition to size, the habits of doves and pigeons are different. Pigeons prefer to walk on the ground; doves prefer to perch above ground. Pigeons flap when flying; doves flutter. Pigeons' call is a sort of low, gurgling gobble. Doves' call (only the males) is a soft "coo-AH-coo, coo, coo.' Both species feed the hatchlings on "Pigeons' Milk" secreted by their bodies, and both are monogamous during the nesting season (and sometimes for life). In flight, pigeons have a rounded tail with a split down the middle. Doves have a tail shaped like the lower two-thirds of a diamond, with a white scalloped edge. When taking off or landing, doves often "whistle" with their wings. Pigeons usually don't. Pigeons can be any of a wide number of colors. Each breed of doves has its own typical markings that don't vary among individuals, and males and females are almost identical. There's more, but that will do for a start....See MoreGood accent colour fo F&B pigeon.
Comments (19)Hi - F&B Pigeon is a near neutral greyed colour from the Green-Yellow Hue Family. ALL low Chroma (near neutral) colours from this Hue Family neighbourhood, are prone to shifting blueish in imbalanced lighting. The impact of varying qualities of light upon Pigeon, is the reason why there are differing opinions about the colour. To some it will appear an almost neutral grey, others will see more of its inherent greenness and others get moments of blueness. Knowing to which Hue Family belongs helps to direct the possible colour harmonies one could make with it. Here’s just one suggestion. A Split-Complementary palette from the Yellow-Red, Green-Yellow & Blue-Purple Hue Families. Oak floor (Yellow-Red), Pigeon (Green-Yellow), chair (Blue-Purple)...See MoreCanuckGardener
