doves vs. pigeons ?

Difference ? between pigeons vs. doves ...

We have both in our yard: ? Doves smaller, slimmer, able to drink (can sip like a straw) w/o tipping head back; pigeons tip head back. Both have different color patterns. Do both have the same 'coo, coo ..' call? Both stay in pairs? So confusing! Help ..

In addition to size, the habits of doves and pigeons are different. Pigeons prefer to walk on the ground; doves prefer to perch above ground. Pigeons flap when flying; doves flutter. Pigeons' call is a sort of low, gurgling gobble. Doves' call (only the males) is a soft "coo-AH-coo, coo, coo.' Both species feed the hatchlings on "Pigeons' Milk" secreted by their bodies, and both are monogamous during the nesting season (and sometimes for life). In flight, pigeons have a rounded tail with a split down the middle. Doves have a tail shaped like the lower two-thirds of a diamond, with a white scalloped edge. When taking off or landing, doves often "whistle" with their wings. Pigeons usually don't. Pigeons can be any of a wide number of colors. Each breed of doves has its own typical markings that don't vary among individuals, and males and females are almost identical. There's more, but that will do for a start.

Oh, thanks for all that info.: rule34!

Now, I see doves at the birdbath drinking but they seem to suck the water up to drink but the pigeons get a beak of water & then they seem to have to tip their head back to swallow the water ... is this true? The local Animal Sanctuary where we take injured small animals, birds gave a detailed account to me of the two but I got 'lost' in all the different details & so many similarities between the two that they told me!! We have both pigeons & doves & the ?doves seem to not be too 'bright'!: They are often quietly walking on the lawn & sadly our little dogs will often catch, kill & eat one despite all my discipline!

Since no one's responding to this I guess no one really knows what it is. It is big, but it does look like it is in the pigeon/dove family. It could be some kind of pigeon or dove with leucism (partial albinism). Sure is interesting looking, especially the yellow eyes. Sorry not a lot of help. Does she live in the city where there are a lot of pigeons, or out in the country with a ton of doves?

i moved up here fom another place almost 4 years ago. South West corner of Colorado There were only a few of the collared doves around. But now i get as many as 20 at a time. When the farm crops such as wheat or oats or other grains are ripening i see most of them in the farm fields. But in bad weather or winter they are thick around my feeders. They are getting thick enough in Colorado so much that they are now added to the Dove hunting season. they breed year around and have as many as 4 broods. they are not timid around other birds and push their way in to the food. since they are mostly ground feeders and slow to fly the stray cats get one now and then. they don't migrate like the other doves and i see them most any time of year.

I would bring sample paint chips to where your slab is (paint chips or sample cabinet doors with your chosen paint on it). The lighting will most likely be different there than your home light, but it should give you a good idea of how the colors blend together. I would also try to get a sample of your slab and bring it home along with your sample paint chips/cabinet doors. I would not automatically paint your cabinets the color of your home doors and trim because unless you’ve matched up your slab to the color of your home trim, you could be making a huge mistake. It’s a lot easier to paint the trim in your kitchen to match up with your cabs and slab than to have to repaint your cabinets should you find that when the slab goes in there’s a terrible clash.
