Comments (3)I just used Rustoleum's oil based primer and gloss enamel for my claw foot bath tub that became a planter in my garden. I chose a custom color, something I didn't know you could do with Rustoleum paints! I wire brushed the whole thing to remove any loose paint (there was alot!). If memory serves I had to wait 24 hours after priming to paint and another 24 until the second coat. Just check the labels when you go to purchase. I'm very pleased with the results! It would take less time if you use water based products but I was assured by my local "paint guy" (he's been selling paint for years and I trust him implicitly) that the oil based products are worth the extra time and effort because they will hold up better under out door conditions. I won't be moving my tub in for our winters here in Ohio. You don't say where you are from and chairs can be stored inside so I don't know if that's a consideration for you. I used Rustoleum spray paints for the the parts of my satellite dish gazebo and it was more expensive because of all the waste. Brushing all of those curliques was not an option for me. It's made it through one winter alright and touch up is easy with spray paint. You can try the Garden Junk forum for more info too. There are lots of folks with all kinds of experiences with paint and we're always happy to help out another "curb shopper!" Hope that this helps! Mimi...See MorePainting Metal chairs
Comments (7)fwiw I painted some metal sheds that were pure rust colored all over. Some holes near the bottom got pop riveted on some alum flashing for covering those. First I painted them with Ospho a couple times. Green Water like stuff, think its mainly a weak phosphoric acid & lanolin. Converts rust in about 24hr to about the same thing as a phosphate primer. Then I put on a coat of cream color rustolium. That was back about 1999 and they get sprinkled with well water twice a week and there is growing some green fungi on one wall, but no rust seen and they overall look pretty darn good (on the out-sides anyhow). Osho, been using it on most things metal here in florida, even if not rusty, as a metal prep before painting. Works! Under $10 for a quart, which goes a long way, from your local hardware....See MoreRehabbing vintage patio set
Comments (7)Hi, I have good luck with oil base industrial paint (alkyd). Just prime the metal and brush it on. It takes about 2 days to dry. It's what fire hydrants are painted with and comes in lots of colors. It should last for years. It's available at large paint stores and Home Depot, etc. Habitat ReStores carry a big selection of mis-mixed paints. You'll have to decide if the table can hold a glass top. We found nice round glass at Cost Plus imports for a very good price. You can probably use a larger piece of glass if you can't locate the exact size. Sometimes glass top tables turn up on the curb, at yard sales, thrift stores, etc. It's expensive to have custom cut. Please post a picture of it so we can see it. Comments (11)Hi Winker! I just want to say that I know how you feel when you don't get a response to a post. So many times I feel I leave a post that closes the entire thread! Hope I don't your thread, tho! Another thing: It's hard to picture where the window and iron gate will go because I've never been to your home and can't picture the perfect place. Sometimes posting a photo of either a problem area or the newly acquired item goes a long way. Being on the Garden Web forum I wonder if you are a gardener? I hung out on that side so long it was only recently that I even browsed the home forums. Many gardeners love the iron gates to support their climbing plants like morning glories, sweet peas, cucumbers or pumpkins....anything viney. I'd love to see your window. I do have a few panels of leaded glass that we removed from my in-laws built in buffet when they were remodeling. They sat in my garage for about 10 years before I saw someone else mount them with chain and hang them on the wall. I'm attaching a link to a photo album to show you. HTH. Here is a link that might be useful: window idea...See MoreBDnBAMA
