NFL Suspends Haynesworth

So, Albert Haynesworth received a five-game suspension for his assault on Andre Gurode. Personally, I don't think it's enough. I'd have booted his keister out for the season. I know he's apologetic and I appreciated the fact that he stepped right up and didn't make excuses. But, it is what it is -- he's lucky he didn't end up in jail.

Did anyone hear if the Titans imposed any punishment of their own?

I agree...that was AWFUL!!..He knew exactly what he was doing....He should be suspended for the rest of the season...

I haven't heard anything else yet...Try checking out their web site..

That was the most pathetic thing I have seen in a long time. You're right, 5 game suspension is not near enough. He should have to leave the game. I hadn't heard of any additional punishment by the Titans coach, but I hope he does. The guy should be in jail for assault.

Lars, I just re-read your post. I really like you & this statement didn't register at first... "...but I imagine that there were a lot of people from out of town there." Were you implying that, as the other team, there were many Bostonians & New Englanders there & that if THEY would have rioted you wouldn't have been surprised? I hope that's not what you meant...'cause while I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise, New England has lost their reputation as "long-suffering losers" & have some experience nowadays with winning championship games without doing tens of millions of dollars in damage to Boston or somebody's else's town. New England Patriots: 2002, 2004, & 2005 (Super Bowl Champs) Boston Red Sox: 2004 & 2007 (World Series Champs) Boston Celtics: 2008 (NBA title champs) Boston Bruins: 2011 (Stanley Cup) We surely understand how Vancouver feels. The Red Sox, the Bruins and the Patriots delivered many calamities but zero championships for a LONG TIME. But this city has ridden an unprecedented wave of success over the past decade. The Bruins' victory in the Stanley Cup finals on Wednesday night made Boston the first city to win championships in all four major sports within a 10 year span. Like the other trophies, the Stanley Cup will go on "tour" throughout New England so all the loyal fans can touch it & snap a picture. Yesterday, it was pushed through the streets of Boston in a baby carriage so fans could admire. :) It's been a LONG time since Boston's won the Stanley Cup & they were the last of our four teams to get their championship...they knew New England was counting on them to deliver. I don't understand the pit bull thing either. There are so many wonderful breeds, why choose one that has a built-in crazy switch? I know they can be nice, but once set off, they can be killers. Why risk it? I also don't understand Vickers and people like him who get off on the violence and blood. And using a animal to fight your battles. It's hateful and I'm sorry his punishment isn't going to be more severe. I hope no one signs him, but if they do, I like the suggestion that the team be boycotted.

well Faron, i am sorry for your loss :-( we have been there many times so i understand the feeling. we haven't won a championship since 1960, pre SB. so hopefully its our time this year. i love this team!!!!! i have to gloat a little - we shredded your defense and our D came to play!! enough said!!! loved the Flea-flicker play. i was totally wrong about a close, kicking game. i don't think anyone predicted that result. you have a great team and will be back stronger next year!! that's why we love and watch the greatest game played - always hope for next year :)

I heard yesterday that the police are asking if the injured player wants to press charges. I don't know what the result was.

I also read in the paper that Haynesworth has had a series of violent incidents. It's great that he was contrite, but he really needs help to get a handle on this before he hurts someone permanently.

Kudos to Jeff Fisher for stating immediately that the behavior was unacceptable.

Gurode's not going to press criminal charges, but he's keeping the option of a lawsuit open, especially if his vision doesn't clear up.

I don't know if Gurode will press charges or not. In our local paper(The Tennessean) it doesn't seem he will. However, Fisher was quoted as saying he doesn't know if he wants Haynesworth back after the suspension. We have enough problems without his temper. It is odd that he has never had any publicity with problems off the playing field, only on the field. Maybe he should just quite playing football. The Colts VS Titan game was the best of the season without him, even though it was a loss!
