Up the curb appeal on half brick ranch home

Hello all. I am looking for some ideas on how to update the exterior of our half brick ranch home. We can not stand the orange brick, so that will be getting limewash to be white. I'm looking for ideas for siding paint color. Also, any other ideas you may have on how to up the curb appeal. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

That bland beige looks awful. I like the brick. I'd get some better landscaping. You have room for some largish shrubs, that might even cover up the brick you don't appreciate. The three yews look stupid. And paint your downspounts to match the house.

Looks much better without the shutters and with the clean-lined doors. Paint the garage door so it blends with your brick to make it recede. I would put the rest of your energy into the planning your landscaping. It looks like you have good sized landscaping beds. You have a really nice home.

Suezbell Thank you. very good suggestions. I will definitely add another walkway -that makes sense and I never thought of that. It could easily be done with flagstone or something. Another struggle is between the house and the existing sidewalk it is such a small area. It may be too small for anything other than flowers so having a multilayer of landscaping would allow me to still put in some boxwoods or something still. I'm trying to picture the porch in front as you mentioned. It's not a bad idea. We actually have a large shared pond in back with most of our acreage being in front and side (like a piece of pie shape). We have 5 little children so we keep the play set and trampoline in front of the house, volleyball net on the side... Not ideal but keeps them safe away from the water. We have a beautiful view in the back yard with large windows and a nice screened in back porch. Just need to bring some beauty to the front of the house. Great ideas. As a few others have indicated, you may be able to get the look you want without painting the brick. Here's a few options that look nice with brick. I know you are planning to paint the doors the same color, but I think raee above was asking about making the actual doors match. I think the one of the right is more in keeping with the age and style of the house. Obviously it won't have the transom but the same kind of door with the 3/4 window would give it some cohesiveness.

Roof: I would stick with the GRAY roof rather than changing to brown. Gray is much more versatile. Brick: I like your brick as is. Don't paint it. Front Door: Don't replace with a 'Craftsman' door. Your house isn't Craftsman. You can get an appropriate wood door that isn't Craftsman. Garage door: Paint to blend with the brick color or one shade darker than the brick. Best to not accent the garage door. You can remove the plastic inserts in the top garage panel so that the windows are square rather than that sunburst pattern and that will be a very nice update for your home. Shutters: Remove them. Your beautiful windows aren't designed for shutters and they clash with your exterior. Porch posts: Don't accent your posts - they aren't a feature. Have the color blend into the house so use the brick color. You have a great home! It just has a mashup of a couple of different styles now. When you finish your improvements, I would love to see how it turns out. Have fun!

Love this!! The flower bed at the edge of the driveway....I would have never thought of that. So cute! Would you recommend keeping the the cement trim piece between the brick and siding the cement gray that it currently is?

Sigrid, I have already purchased and am pretty dedicated to limewashing the brick. What color would you suggest for the siding?

Re-landscaping is what‘s needed the most, that’s what jumps out at me, also, the blacktop looks it could use some maintenance.

K Laurence. I completely agree. Do you have any suggestions? And yes driveway is next on the list after we finish the upgrade to the exterior of the house and landscaping. We want some sort of bushes, much husband likes having them to put lights on for Christmas.

The best thing you can do for the house, is to get those very ugly hedging bushes pulled out, and start from scratch on the landscaping. Nothing wrong with the brick, its actually very nice, however the color painted on the top part, doesnt go well with the brick. Painting the siding, and the garage door, all a nice tan, would improve the looks of the house considerably. I would have chosen a gray for that, but, notice that you have a brown roof, so tan would work better.

Kari Louis …. I can’t make any plant suggestions since I assume my climate is much different ( I live at beach So Cal, where you can literally grow almost anything ). Your house looks nice, nice lines, just needs a little tweaking.

If you're going to put in a new driveway, you should plan a walkway so the approach to the front door isn't the driveway. You have plenty of room to add a walkway. That will affect your landscaping so I would hold off on that. You can change the foundation shrubs now, if spring is the best time to plant shrubs in your area.

I'm thinking all white for the house because the trim is white, the garage door is white. Blending all together under one roof just does it for me.
