That's mugwort, Artemesia vulgaris. It's very invasive. It spreads by underground rhizomes and even small pieces of the rhizome are capable of sprouting another plant. I hope you've caught it before it spread too much. I've been pulling it for 10 years.

Thanks, but I don't think so, I've never seen one of those trees in our neighborhood. If there were only a few seedlings I'd say, sure. Birds spread everything. But there are literally hundreds of them. The mulch I mentioned was not trucked in, it was from trees taken down in my yard and chipped by the tree service. I think I'll give them a few days and post again with more developed plants. We're expecting two days of rain so I won't be getting outside to weed before Sunday anyway.

I totally agree on the pokeweed -- have a lot of it around here and I'll pluck it out. The other should be butterfly pea vine, Clitoria ternatea, as I had transplanted a specimen there last fall and hoped it would come back. Thank you sooooo much. This is a new bed and I put a lot in there just hoping something would come up.
