Please critique my TV size over fireplace
Comments (28)I know you have quite a bit to read through here already, so I will try to keep this brief. Because of the doorways leading into your room, your sofa layout is most definitely the most practical, and having the TV over the fireplace provides with the best view from both seating locations so I would stick to your gut on that one. With regard to the tile, I would make sure to select a dark grout that blends in well. Without seeing the actual tile, my best guess is that a taupe would still provide you with a bit of contrast which you like in your inspiration picture without creating too much of a color difference to be bothersome while watching TV. When DH held up the cardboard over the fireplace, it was perfect. My suggestion is to get a TV mount that tilts so that you can have it slightly facing downwards to maximize viewing comfort. You can also certainly have a wood mantlepiece. However, for all of this to look great, I think you need to extend your tile to the corners where the wall bends. If you have a professional tile installer do the installation they can cut the tiles at an angle so it ends right into the wall. Otherwise, you can order a tile liner for the edges for a finished look. I attached a picture of a fireplace I did in grey with the TV up high with a tilt mount so you can see an example of it in action. Comments (45)Erin, please go talk to a lawyer in person asap. Of course the builder wants you to sign over your land, because then he can hold you hostage, even if he does a poor job and drags things out. If you own the land and there is a major problem, you can fire the builder and tell him to get off your land. If he get annoyed at you, he'll even be able to tell you not to trespass on what is now his property. How will you feel when you aren't allowed to step on your property without the builder's permission? I own a lot and will be building next year. I would never ever ever, sign my lot over to anyone. You said you had never been through this before. Many here have, and experience tells us that you need someone to represent your interests. Comments (32)funkyart - thank you, big grin on this end! arapaho - The idea of switching art.... is really satisfying! Yes, the heater is a gas stove and there is an electrical outlet. We also have an outlet behind the TV. Glad to talk through logistics for wiring the Samsung One Connect box behind the TV - I have pictures. marie_cate - thank you, we are! I enjoy the art so much I am loathe to switch over to TV :)...See MoreNeed help - trying to mount a TV in a builtin
Comments (35)Adding to Kudzu's caution about the back of the bookcase probably being thin material (quarter inch or even less), you need to know for certain how the bookcase assembly is secured in the opening. It could be lightly fastened to studs on either side aided by a friction fit. Likely there is no stud behind it (in the center; the recess could have been framed to the size of the bookcase, possibly with a header if this is a supporting wall. Rare earth magnets can help locate fasteners when a lot of stud finders fail. If you are determined to put the TV there, the smart thing to do would be to pull the bookcase out of the opening so you absolutely know for sure what you are working with. One other approach would be to look for fasteners on the other side of the wall if the fireplace is situated on an interior wall....See Morejill302
