Comments (5)no.. cutting to the ground was proper.. as your name suggest.. TRUST me on that ... otherwise.. the half cut back ones.. would flop to the ground in a year or two.. when they exploded in growth at height ... i cant really comment on GOOGLE EXPERTS ... nor their system.. without a link .. and again.. i cant really tell you if you did good.. w/o a pic of your plant... but again.. simply in my minds eye... i would not have tied it up ... personally.. i would rather watch how a plant responds to a certain situation.. than to force my aesthetic on it by binding it into a form of which its not ... but if it makes you happy.. then who cares what i prefer ... my gut tells me.. that you have a rather.. naturally unruly plant ... and you are having a hard time.. emotionally .... dealing with it ... and when i get to that point.. the point where my expectations.. are not fulfilled.. i GET RID OF THE PLANT... and plant something that fulfills MY NEEDS... and sometimes i lose money on the plant ... but on the other hand.. money lost is better than being irritated by it.. every time i look at it ..... you are going to have a hard time forcing a plant into a shape that it is going to fight ... and this plant... is fairly aggressive.. in doing whatever it wants ... i wish you luck ... ken...See MoreLarge dense rose bushes to deter dog from digging out?
Comments (17)The rose bush you want is The Fairy. I also have rescued dogs and I have a beagle mix that has done hundreds of dollars of damage to my garden digging. She won't mess with The Fairy though. It's a beautiful low sprawling bush that bursts with pale pink flowers all summer and fall. She has about a billion really mean thorns. Shes a landscape rose and keeps those thorns low and dense. Better yet she will put down babies that take root and grow where her branches touch the ground. Fortunately she is almost disease free and you don't have to prune her. She's shade tolerant, thrives on neglect and did I mention that she's almost constantly in bloom from June until hard frost? Since she's low you can put her in front of climbers to fill out the area. Cassie is also an escape artist and I had her microchipped. I would suggest you do the same (along with an identification tag.) That way if the little darling gets out you have a good shot at getting her back.' Here is a link that might be useful: The Fairy Rose...See MoreButterfly bushes budding out?
Comments (1)I can't tell if you are in Northern Oklahoma, Central, or South. In OKC, mine started showing new growth about a week ago. If you are North of me, it may be a week or two later than me before you see initial spring growth on yours. It could also be dependent on the type of BB you planted, location, etc. Mine is planted in a full sun location on the South side of my house, and it's close to the street and driveway, in a bed surrounded by rocks. The warmth retained by the cement and rocks during the day are likely to spur earlier growth than some in other settings. Don't give up yet. I'd give it another 2-3 weeks before worrying about them. Comments (8)My dark desire gets to 10 feet tall every year unless pruned heavily in early spring and late summer or pegged down. I normally prune to 2 feet tall. Also I have pegged it to get long arches of blooms and keep it lower without pruning as much. Not sure if my pictures Are able to show what I did but I bent the canes down slowly (it likes to break). I used twine and every week I would pick up some slack until I had arches that went almost to the ground. After one season the twine can be removed and the canes are hardened in place. If you peg her it will bloom along those long arches. Then just prune the laterals down and leave your arches in place every year. If you go the prune down to 2-3 feet twice a year it will still bloom great but it will bloom later than other roses, at least it did here. The years I pruned her really hard she grew to 4-5 feet tall before blooming so it took a while. 2019 prunned hard Not blooming yet 2020 pegged started together with the rest hope you get her to a happy place she is a wonderful rose...See Morebeesneeds
