It’s -5°F here north of Chicago, so it has warmed up. DH and DS’ flight last night in from Toronto was cancelled, so was their 9am this morning, but they got on a 7am! The roads seem to be okay. I was hoping that my music practice was cancelled tonight, but no such luck (so far), but the drive shouldn’t be too bad. In the morning we head to sunny AZ for a couple of days! Yay!

Huntsville, AL/ Where we are in south Madison county, not much. Rest of north Alabma at a stop from snow and ice. Cold., icy streets. Going to 4* Tuesday into Wednesday. Much worse north of us and to the west of us. We live in a valley and usually miss the worst. The sun is to come out Thursday? and the temp rise, so should melt a lot of the ice and snow.

There is a layer of sleet and ice on the roads under the snow here. Nashville is showing 5 to 6 inches of show, which means they are shut down.

If you check and time for maybe Thursday, Nashville and Atlanta should thaw out.

Here in the Dallas area, we experienced lake-effect snow and woke up to to this today. It's currently 24 degrees and will not climb above freezing, dipping back down to the low teens tonight. We're staying warm by the fire.

Currently 49 here, south of Asheville, NC. The weather line is slowly slipping south, sleet snow at the TN/NC border, drizzle in Asheville at the airport but nothing here. Tonight gets down to upper 20s but tomorrow night will be a cold one at 11. No precip in our forecast.

Cdn West Coast - We are finally (for us) climbing out of our deep freeze but being left in the wake are a lot of broken water pipes unfortunately. But people are having fun skating on a couple of frozen city lakes which happens so seldom. But the climb up in temperature will be fast so the lakes will get closed. The temperatures rising to above 0C (32F) is forecast to coincide with rain forecast tomorrow night which is now forecast to bring snow and freezing rain right a rush hour. Oh fun.

I don't know why (probably just my ignorance) but I'm always surprised to hear Dallas or anywhere in Texas for that matter get snow and ice. I'll have to google the topography.

I grew up in Texas....and...I just don't remember it snowing there. Colorado: -5 and snowing. It's supposed to get down to -13 tonight....again...then we break out of it tomorrow. The radiant heat flooring can't keep up when it's this cold...for this long. I'm sitting next to a mini-electric heater. I have two going....otherwise it's 52F in here. I'd like to install an elelctic fireplace in the master bedroom wall.

In central OK at 8am it was 2 degrees and sub zero wind chill. Right now at 2pm it's 14 with sub zero wind chill. We got about an inch of snow yesterday but more just a few miles to the north. A chance of snow tonight.

DH's cousins live around Victoria, TX which is close to the gulf. This happened in 2017:

" Tyler Castillo, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, said the Victoria area received up to 2 inches of snow. Port Lavaca received nearly an inch of snow as well. A whopping 7 inches fell on the south side of Corpus Christi. "

Seven inches in Corpus Christi? That's huge.

We have over 6” at our house in Nashville, and it's still snowing like crazy. And so cold! 13° right now.

And I was complaining that our high temperatures have been 60 for almost a week.

@Jilly....New Braunfels. I remember the heat....sitting in the goldfish pond....and one day my mother said it was too hot to sit in....I didn't believe her. 😂 When we moved to Colorado....Colorado was considered a BIG deal back then. Everyone vacationed here.

We keep getting snow forecasts that get reduced and reduced and reduced. The problem is that we are getting heavy rains instead and this causes localized flooding, and the toppling of trees because of saturated soil and minimal root systems making top heavy trees. There was no damage to the houses. Sometimes these crush cars.

This is in my neighborhood, I lived in the building to the far right bottom many years ago.

Oh Pal that is so sad. We are in Maine and it was 45 and sunny yesterday. Then I looked up and I could not understand where the ocean went. Snow squall. Cold to day but a beautiful blue sky and a coating of snow. So lovely.

Central VA- there was a light dusting on the grass early this AM and it hasn’t accumulated much. Maybe an inch or two expected by morning. It still makes people scurry like bunnies to their warrens.

The temper in my South East Wisconsin neighbohood is -2 right now with a windchill of -22. Single digit temps and windchills well below zero are predicted for the rest of the week. This comes on top of a 17" snowfall this past Friday. Look like we wont be grilling out for a while.

Lots of tree damage around here too. I hope the 2 pine tree branches below are just sagging from the weight of the snow and haven't actually broken off damaged my fence.

My SIL lost 4 trees on her property.

Almost 60 on Saturday, 40s and sunny yesterday cold and a few inches of snow expected tonight into tuesday.

Southern Wisconsin here as well. Currently -3, and windchill is -12. Took this when we were first getting the snow from this storm. It was really beautiful. My wheaten loves the snow and cold!

He’s trying to convince the new sparsely coated puppy, who is not convinced! He is a Humane Society rescue from Alabama who has had us worried as he was diagnosed with Parvo on Saturday. It was a whirlwind weekend, but seems to be on the mend after getting the antibody shot for it.

Woke up to a beautiful dusting of snow this morning.

Same conditions on the W coast south of blfenton - we are slowly easing out of our arctic blast that had kept us below freezing with nights in the teens the last few days. Two households of local family are in Kona for a few weeks and I've been busy running back and forth to their homes, making sure heat is on correct temps, sink cabinet doors open, nothing freezing up or risking broken pipes that I wouldn't want to deal with in their absences. We're at 29F this morning and afternoon should be warmer, temperatures increasing tomorrow and predicted to continue that trend into the weekend. I wish someone could tell me how our overwintering hummingbirds can exist at 17F, but they do. DH has been bringing their food in at night, setting an alarm and putting it out again just before daylight. We had two days where it needed daytime attention to keep it from turning into snowcones they couldn't access - not typical for our Januaries.

Morz8 - thanks for mentioning vacationing neighbours - we have friends who are in Hawaii so I just texted them about checking their house.

morz, hummingbirds go into a state of torpor. It is an involuntary thing that happens so that they can conserve energy.

It occurs in extremely hot weather as well.

High of 23 today, low of 6. Supposedly we got 8-10 inches of snow; we haven't been out LOL. We will enjoy "holing up" for a couple of days. I have plenty I can do inside. We have slept in (more lounged around, watching the news updates on the weather, etc. than sleeping) the last couple of mornings. Snow always makes me want to cook, so I'll do some of that in a bit. : )

We are forecast 2* tomorrow morning. It has not been that cold in North Alabama since the 60's when I was in high school and the Powers-That-Be decided that the females could wear pantsuits instead of skirts as long as there was a jacket or vest to match the pants.

Currently -2F, up from -20, but a beautiful day. Going to the gym at 10:00 this morning it was fun watching the temp drop from 56 F in our heated garage to -2 in a five minute drive. We got about 20 inches on top of what we already had over the weekend and a winter storm warning for tomorrow and Thursday pomising another 1 to 2 feet. Steamboat Springs, CO, so we are accustomed to the snow and welcome it.

I'm in one of the few parts of the country that has been having relatively normal weather (Oakland, CA). I won't tell you the temperature because it seems mean.

My daughter flew back to Colorado for college and was at her aunt's house in Arvada for the last two nights, where it was -17 degrees last night. They were supposed to drive up yesterday but didn't because of snow. The university ended up cancelling Tuesday classes anyway.

Yesterday it was 55+ here, sunny and gorgeous. Today it is overcast and 34 degrees. My dogs don’t know how to act! Colder tonight and tomorrow and through the rest of the week but no snow on the horizon, thank heavens. Drivers in Georgia experience temporary insanity when it snows.

I have a friend who lived off the exit near that truck overturn in Katy. That photo is not showing now so I'm not sure if it showed that there was a wreck on the other side of the freeway and traffic was stopped in both directions. Portions of just about every freewa in the Houston area was closed or blocked by wrecks at some point eysterday. There was an interview with a man who was driving home from work and spent 6-1/2 hours on the toll road we take into or back from Houston. Many cars ran out of gas. It was a mess even though we got a lot less precipitation than to the north and west. I got less than what you saw in Katy, but it was nearly all ice - sleet, freezing rain and the tiniest bit of tiny snowflakes that left some white in areas. Seeing that some people have frozen pipes again and an area to the west of me is without gas. Have seen other areas without electricity or water, but they are pockets -- nothing like 2020 at this point.

Today, we were not forecast to break freezing, but it is sunny and 38 degrees now - will probably be in the teens again tonight. Freeze again on Friday -- but nothing frozen when we take Lulu to get her stitches out on Thursday.

Nina, I had no idea (actually in NYC right now). Pretty bad flooding near me. We are high up so no issue for us but some pretty dramatic flooding in low lying coastal areas.

We're getting some of the edges here I think - temp.s dropping to low 40s tonight, with windchill @ 30s. Most homes here aren't built for real up-north cold weather.

My aunt is in WI too - Brookfield - they lost power over the weekend and had to go stay in a hotel. She's in her 80s and has heath & mobility issues, so this was super stressful for her. Thankfully she was back home on Sunday, but is worried it may happen again. She said they had 14" of snow, and my cousin, who lives nearby, had 2 of her trees come down, and her neighbor lost 4(!)

Yes, Houston traffic has really been a mess. The interstate through our town was closed all day yesterday, both directions, due to a bunch of mishaps before ten a.m. Freezing temps again tonight, so we will turn the water off again. I'm supposed to go to the gym tomorrow, so hoping the surface streets are okay.

We're supposed to get snow after midnight and then freezing rain by 6am for rush hour I just really hope that the forecasters are wrong. We don't do well in the snow. North Florida. Being so close to the Gulf helps our temps (water is warmer than the air, vice versa in the summer keeps it cooler). Currently 26. HIgh today 46. Not as windy this morning as yesterday. Birdbath is frozen. Hoping my feral colony of three are in their heated cat tents in the carport. Feeding them extra since more calories are burned to keep themselves

My sister lives in Vancouver and says it is craaaazy there. I really do feel for you.

We only got down to 23 -- not 16, last night and we are back above freezing. Forecast on Friday has us dipping below freezing overnight but not a hard freeze so far. Hope that holds and I hope this is the big ugly for the year.
