Dragon Fruit Plant (pitaya) Disease
Comments (3)I have tried spraying my dragon fruit plants which were infected with black spots with a salt solution of 2-3 tbsp of salt to a gallon of water. My dragon fruit plant are now recovering. It is best to remove the sections badly infected and spray the plants thoroughly with water to clean the entire plant. Do not allow any liquid or infectious matter to drop or scatter over the healthy parts for the same may cause further infection. Spray the plant with the salt solution and allow to dry....See MoreDark spot on Dragon fruit (Pitaya) plant
Comments (3)Greenman62, Thank you for responding. I used Miracle Grow potting mix, but recently moved it the Miracle Grow garden mix. Not sure if there's a major difference. I water it throughly & let dry out between waterings. I read lots of warning on overwatering so I try to avoid it myself. Louisiana is nice, but got some cold front here & there the beginning of spring. Sometimes it got down to maybe 40s - 50s F. No frost though. Could that be the reason?...See MorePictorial progress of dragon fruit plantings.
Comments (30)Wow, your dragon fruit looks great. I have a question does new dragon fruit cutting go temporarily dormant in the cooler months? I got some cutting off ebay in October and it hasn't even rooted yet(Dec), the cutting have gone bright green to a yellow green and the cutting has also shrunk a bit in thickness. What is wrong why aren't the cutting rooting yet? I have email the ebay seller I got it from and he said that in colder months they will go dormant, then start rooting again in spring. Have you had experience like these for new cuttings? In the first picture with the fruits, is that a cherimoya on the right? I saw on another post you said that you're from Fresno, well so am I. I have some cherimoya seedling going now and I want to plant some in ground and leave some in pots. How has your cherimoya plant been handling this Fresno winter? Sorry, you can disregard the cherimoya question if that isn't a cherimoya....See Morewhere to get dragon fruit ?
Comments (4)Like Floral said, do you want to plant it or eat the fruit. If you are in the US and live in an area where there are Asian population, you can easily find dragon fruit in Asian market/grocery store. In fact, we find them in big chain supermarket like Stop&Shop, too. If you are not in CA, but want to mail order it, try Logee's nursery in CT. They sell the plants on line. A good company. Dragon fruit tastes mildly sweet. You should taste it before deciding to plant one, just in case you don't like the taste or texture....See MoreKarim Rayes
