Need Help: Rotting of Adenium Tips
Comments (14)Rick, Rinoa gave the same suggestions as you did with the exception of whats lies beneath..THE ROOTS. I think the roots maybe the cause. I did found some rotting of roots and caudex closer to the roots. I trimmed it off and applied cinnamon. I would love to uproot the whole plant but wants to wait to see how things go since we are in winter season I have held off on watering for 3 wks now and will continue to do so until I see any leaves or any indication of growth . I have few adeniums from Chris at Durham Botanical and he is awesome. I will contact him for his suggestion too if no success in a week. I have already accepted the fact that I may end up with the original plant..without grafts if this fails. Hoping not to lose the entire plant. Thanks again. I truly appreciate this....See MoreAdenium seedling rot
Comments (2)Hi Rick, I too (try to) grow adeniums from seed so I know where you are coming from on this one having lost several overwintering youngsters myself!! I think that is the key....youngsters and overwintering...not a good combination especially if they have gone dormant. I think they are far more managable if you can keep them in leaf throughout the whole year. At least I have found this is what works for me and my plants which are 3 at three yrs and 1 at one year old. I also have 12 seeds currently in the propagator but they are proving difficult to germinate at the moment...others have sprouted in 2 days for me...so I wonder how fresh these are. As yours are dormant, I still think the combination of cooler temps and the small amount of water you gave to the leafless plants was just too much for them. It's a fine balance between overwatering and causing rot, or dessicating the roots to such an extent that they won't recover to take up water when you do hydrate them again...I know I've done it and got it wrong!! My current plants have kept growing all year so are still leafy and doing well. What kind of soil are yours in as I know they need exceptionally good drainage? You also mentioned planting up the cut portion of your rotted plant....did you let it callous over for a couple of days or so before potting it up? Forgive me for questioning you like this! Hop over to the cacti/succulent forum and check out Caudex1's posts as he is an authority on adeniums. Hope you find the answers, good luck. Comments (19)If you got all the rot off it will survive. Make sure your soil is very AIRY. Adeniums tolerate tons of water if the soil is very airy so the roots get air around them. AdeniumRose company grow thousands of adeniums 100% outside (NO COVER what-so-ever) - inches of rain every week with less than 3% loss. Airy soil is the key!...See MoreAdenium rot
Comments (3)Two growers in Thailand mentioned treated their tree's with fungicide but with all the hot rain they have been getting the are fighting rot also. I just bought a moisture meter. An other member suggested it since I am fairly new and learning what the trees need for my area....See Morealisonoz_gw
