My turn! What is my house?!
Comments (30)Lavender, I suspected a small bedroom as well. There's a strange "door" situation in that area of the house that's hard to explain... Basically, if you had walked down the stairs to the 1st floor, you'd have been faced with 3 doors. (?). The door to the outside, & an interior door on each side. (The "bathroom" door, and a door to the "den"). We can see where the hardware was removed from the trim. I had researched (Polk Directory) back to abt 1913, (had to stop there, got busy & haven't been back to library for while) a doctor was listed at this address @ that time - I've joked to DH that our bathroom was his "office", lol! (Thus the 3rd entrance, and the extra door closing it off from the rest of the house). Doc's niece was listed as tenant for a bit, attending the college a block over - a "boarding" situation would probably make more sense. (Not a better story, tho'!). :-) The closet is "new", most walls on 1st floor are. (Framing & all, grr!). I doubt the wall between LR & bedroom wouldve been angled like this, either. (Made a larger, more "mod" living rm, yuck!). The small room off the kitchen was a laundry/utility room when we moved in. Now it's a pantry/utility room. (Nowhere else to put the big dang furnace & water heater!). One "original" use I've considered is a "butlers pantry", which didn't seem to require a butler even back then. The trap-door to the cellar is there, makes using the room tricky....See MoreNeed help! Struggling with a blah back of beige sided house...
Comments (12)A tree could be something like lilac, burning bush (even dwarf,) PG Hydrangea, some of the medium sized Viburnums, a large deciduous Azalea, etc. (It can't be a shrub that suckers badly.) Pachysandra would work AFTER some protective shade developed from the tree. You might use something else -- even annuals -- that will tolerate the light conditions, on a temporary basis....See MoreHelp my blower inside the house for AC does not turn on
Comments (3)Next, I pulled the 24v door switch wire that goes to the board and plugged the fan wire to it. To see if the fan would turn on that way. It did not only made a low hum noise. I wouldn't hook anymore 120 volt devices to the 24 volt circuit. That can only cause damage. Go after it with a vom or call a pro....See Morehelp taking home office from blah to functional style
Comments (10)I’d recommend the same thing however, I’d align the side of each desk with the windows (not next to the windows, just aligned with them) and place a long narrow table between them for shared resources, like printers, etc., if there’s room (or add a large table top over both desks, creating a shared centre area). I’d also suggest you add drapes that cover the wall space, between the windows and some beautiful art on the wall facing the entry. As much as a rug could be quite beautiful, I’m not a fan of rugs on top of rugs, particularly when your current rug is patterned and your chairs have to be able to slide in and out. Look for some very colourful art and drapes to address your sense of “blah”. Your room and furniture are so neutral, you could choose almost any colour you like....See MoreLisa
