There's no Closet Forum, so....Can We talk Walk In Closets?
Comments (21)Lots of really good light is necessary. Trying to differentiate between the navy blue pants and the black pants and then trying to find socks that match is hard without good lighting. I'm always having to bring my stuff out of the closet into the bedroom where the light is better to figure it out. I have a mix of hangers - padded ones for blouses, clipped ones for skirts, my Dh likes wooden ones for suit jackets and I like really strong ones for my jeans - and those are really hard to find these days. Costco often sells nice packages of hangers. Think about what you are storing other than clothes - shoes, purses (I have a deeper shelf at the top for purses so as to keep those pesky straps under control and they are in cubbies that hold about 4 purses each), accessories such as scarves, belts....See MoreMaster Suite Design - Built-in wardrobe vs Walk-in closet
Comments (42)I totally agree with cpartist. You are really limiting yourself by staying in the footprint you made for yourself. Considering the investment you will make in the addition, I would want to do everything I could to make this room and possibly the laundry room/office work. I would also think about landscaping. Maybe your bedroom doesnt look to the patio because you move it to the back of the house, but you have succulents and cacti planted in front of the bedroom windows for a beautiful view. I'd start over with a fresh piece of paper and think about every option. I say this because I am doing a master suite addition to my house. I put a lot of thought into what I wanted. The people on this board also really helped me and I hired an architect. We came up with a great plan and will be starting this week on the project....See MoreAny advice for a nice looking narrow ceiling light for walk in closet?
Comments (3)I assume the hatch to attic in the closet means you have access for ease of mounting. And that the hatch also makes it so you can't mount in center. How about some LED linear lights? They mimic the old style fluorescent, but have much better look and last a long time. With LED you can also choose a lower color temperature than traditional fluorescents. I prefer 2700k-3000k indoors, but think you will want ~3000k in a closet, maybe slightly higher color temperature. Also, you can try to get better CRI so that your clothes, etc look better when putting things together. Maybe you can use one on each side of the hatch? How about something like this: https://www.lightingdirect.com/lithonia-lighting-fmfl-30840-caml-oa-13-38-flush-mount-3000k-led-ceiling-fixture/p2761784 A listing of LED linear lighting fixtures under $200 can be found here: https://www.lightingdirect.com/ceiling-fixtures/c1206?f59763=under%20%24199&f60951=led%20fixtures&f64255=linear&r=48&s=SCORE&p=1&categoryId=1206 I have used Lighting Direct recently, like them, and most importantly am familiar with the web site. I don't work for them! Anyhow, my advice is to not shy away from linear lights because they have improved a lot. -Adam...See Moreone car driveway with wall on one side and fence on the other side
Comments (46)If you have the space to push the garage back on the lot, I would do so unless you have another reason for the current location. In my case, we had quite a large useless space behind the garage so we built a garden shed addition to use the space. In that spot the dirt was full of rocks with some concrete motorcycle parking space and tree overhead with privacy fence on the north and east sides. My space had no sunlight so no practical use at all for the space. I wish the original builder would have moved my garage closer to the back of the lot. My other comment is make sure you have planned for adequate lighting. We have motion sensor lights on the garage, but the space between the house and fence is a dark tunnel. When I first got my current car, the window tinting was dark and I had to use the camera because I coudn't see anything in the side mirrors....See Morerobo (z6a)
