Choosing a 12v or 18v lithium cordless tool kit? Brands?
Comments (13)Not sure how old your husband is, but the older I get, the more I appreciate my 12v LI cordless drill! I have the Hitachi and I love it. I also have an 18v Bosch that is much heavier, but also makes both my shoulder and elbow problems flare up much quicker. For fast jobs where I'm not holding the drill above my head or at odd angles, the heavier drill is fine. But, I'd much rather reach for my smaller drill. So far, I've completely remodeled my house, built a fence, deck, done drywall- all with my 12v drill. I have 3 batteries and when I'm working one is always ready in the charger. The smaller drill has adjustable settings, so I can put together stuff from IKEA without stripping screws. The 18v has way too much power, and would surely strip those. I also have an electric screwdriver that I could use for simpler things, but prefer the feel of the drill. I think it's a very personal thing, have him try them out buy holding them at the store. And remember, most of the displays don't include the heavy part- the battery- so make sure to take that into consideration. And always buy the best brand you can. The first drill I bought was a Black & Decker, and it has been charged maybe twice in the 6 years I've had it. I prefer quality tools- and that one isn't....See MoreCan you make a lamp cordless?
Comments (18)The Thinkgeek.com link was a April Fools joke - just click on the "Buy Now"... The MIT link is legit. While there are companies developing and now selling charging mats, Intel has been working on and has demonstrated a much more robust system. They used resonate coupling to transmit enough power to light a 60 watt light bulb over two feet away at 75% efficiency of input power. Their latest published system specs use a 7 MHz frequency and can transmit power at 80% up to about 6 feet. Toll transponders can be either active with an internal battery for up to 300' transmission or passive with a much decreased but respectable range, and rely upon RF excitation from the reader for resonate transmission. I'm not sure if I'd want want to be in a room with RF power distribution, since I know don't know of many other people with a background in broadcast engineering that actually even condone keeping a cell phone in your pocket all day, but the concept does seem to have much more potential than previously thought. Comments (37)recordaras - both my Miele upstairs & downstairs canisters have the electric motorized carpet head and they work quite well. We have some faux oriental rugs in the kitchen, made of olefin (well, they are in the kitchen LOL) that grab and hold dog hair like nobody's business. My old beloved Hoover Wind Tunnel upright can't even pick it up. So I usually rub the carpets with sole of my shoe to get the hair or ball up, then hit it with the upright. Yesterday, I used my Miele canister carpet head and OMG the stuff came right up! Our son needs a new vac and put it in his Xmas wish list. I really wanted to get him a Sebo 'Felix', but there are no authorized service centers nowhere near him. No way is he going to ship anything anywhere for repair or whatever, especially with the long hours he works. So we bought him the Miele canister that Costco has online. I hope he likes it! * * *. It is so nice to have a support group for my vacuum cleaner addiction. All seven of them. LOL!!! Each one has a dedicated job. The best of the lot is the Panasonic canister vac I bought 30+ years ago. That motor refuses to die! It has lived in the basement/garage for ages and has even sucked up crud from the bottom of an outdoor grill. Kenmore bags still fit it, it takes a lickin' and keeps on ticking. (and if you are of a certain age, you will remember that old commercial.... :-))...See MoreShould I get a cordless lamp instead?
Comments (18)Thanks for everyone’s comments. I should mention I am planning on installing a large chandelier in the room - just haven’t picked it yet. Also, eventually , I will probable put the two chairs yous see next to eachother facing the window and put two light colored x benches facingthe chairs. Perhaps at that point I will put this side table in between the chairs and get a larger side table next to rhe couch, but currently the scale doesn’t bother me....See Morecyn427 (z. 7, N. VA)
