Last minute floor tile decision ... Please help!
Comments (3)I'd go with a different tile. Do be careful with that Marazzi. We don't really know anything about your bathroom, the dimensions, etc, the colors, the style. So it's tough to advise. I do like to shift gears with size and pattern between walls and floor, especially when using square tiles. Generically, if you're doing a simple stacked pattern of 6-by-6's in the shower, consider a larger tile (12's to 16's) on the floor in a diamond pattern. If the 6's are going in the shower in a diamond pattern, then consider a linear stacked pattern on the floor. Or you can match. Running bond on the walls, and a running bond on the floors. If your floor is not dimensionally equal, then avoid a diamond pattern on the floor, it accentuates out-of-square walls. Best, Mongo...See MoreNeed help with last minute counter decision
Comments (10)I have a big sample of Torquay sitting in my dining room, and every time I pass it I think, "Why don't I just pick it and get it over with?" But I totally understand your fake stone issue. I'm going to visit every stone yard within 100 miles of here, and if I find a beautiful madreperola, I'm there! It's one of the very few stones that can make me stray from what I'm supposed to be looking for - a leathered black granite (I know - that's not even close to MP or Torquay). Have you seen Pip's gorgeous kitchen? I'll link it below. Here's a picture of a Christopher Peacock kitchen that might help: The countertop is similar to yours, and the oak cabinets are similar to yours, and the gray cabinets are similar to your tile color, so I'd say you could make it look really nice. Just make sure you fill your glass-front cabinets with dishes that match your gray floor! Comments (22)i prefer side by side, but i fold out of the dryer and stack on top-- way easier than dumping and folding, imo!! :) i would be ok with stacked if i didn't fold out of the dryer because i'm fairly tall... tho, in the winter i also sometimes put towels on top of the washer/dryer and lay sweaters on top of them to dry... i love my pedestals- 15.5"tall- and they are stuffed! i have numerous different types of detergent, bleach, stain remover bottles, etc, etc under the washer and dryer sheets and extra towels and rags and a bunch of other stuff under the dryer... i have had cabinets above my w&d in previous homes and it doesn't work great for me because i stack clothes, etc on top and don't always immediately remove- then to get in the cabinets, i have to pull over a stepstool and remove what's on top of the w&d to get into the cabinet. open shelves definitely would be easier! if you put up shelves, i would make them 18" deep....See MoreLast minute paint color dilemma - please help asap!
Comments (57)OK another update. I took the can of slip back and had them tweak it -- they tried for Violet Pearl but because there were already pigments in there that weren't supposed to be, I ended up with something darker that looked a lot like BM's Piano Concerto instead. I used it to repaint a few of the slip walls and liked it better -- it went from little girl's room lavender to a darker lavender with a bit of grapey tinge. But it was still pretty intense and not grayed out enough. So I went back to the store and grabbed sample cans of Hampshire Rocks, Violet Pearl, and After the Rain - the three lightest on that paint strip. (After the Rain had been a finalist in my earlier deliberations.) Hampshire Rocks was an immediate no -- in the room it looks pink with a gray tinge -- not lavender at all (and -- STOP READING NOW IF YOU HAVE HAMPSHIRE ROCKS ANYWHERE IN YOUR HOUSE CAUSE I DON'T WANT TO RUIN IT FOR YOU -- awful as it sounds, it reminded me of the color a dead person's skin after the undertaker makes them up for the viewing - yikes!). Violet Pearl and After the Rain have serious potential though. The sample cans are some other kind of paint that takes MUCH longer to dry than the aura, so I painted some largish swatches and am waiting for it to dry down fully. More pics tomorrow I guess! I brought home a chip of Capitol White during my first paint store trip and it is beautiful -- it's like the color of vanilla ice cream. But the trim paint is Ben Moore's Simply White which has a creamy tinge. And really, it's a color match done into a different brand of paint that is ended up even creamier than the real Simply White. So when I held the Capitol White up to the trim, there didn't seem to be enough contrast -- it looked like a slightly "off" version of the trim color. I will keep Capitol White in mind for future projects though - it is pretty! LisaD82 - funny you say that about Ocean Air - I wouldn't call it spa blue or baby boy blue -- in real life, it's more like a tiffany box blue. It's pretty but somehow it seems to fight with all the gray in the stone, grout, etc. And Roarah -- I think your room is beautiful and not boring at all!!!!...See MoreKatie S
