Trying to find a harmless bath tub under $400
Comments (71)My grandma eats sweets including homemade pies with 1-2 c sugar per pie, loves sweets in general, eats too many fried foods for my taste, doesn’t eat paint chips, bathes in a porcelain tub, and was JUST moved to a nursing facility this year since she’s losing her mobility (mind is still intact) and in another month she will be celebrating her 100th birthday. You don’t have to live in a bubble to live a long life. Much of your life expectancy is predetermined in large part by genetics. Use common sense and don’t lick the bathtub....See MoreWhat do you think of this Italian tub?
Comments (48)It may not be more since it doesn't have the stand. I like both of these better thhan the one you started out asking about. Did you see the translucent Jason tub? I love the look of that one, but I don't think I would put it in my bath. But I did notice they have it in blue now, and that makes it more interesting. ;-)...See MoreSuggestions for alcove tub with deeper water depth?
Comments (25)I'm in the middle of a remodel so I don't have personal experience . . . yet. But, I did a fair amount of research, and I bought this bath drain/overflow which is being installed. http://mountainplumbing.com/catalog/product/mountain-plumbing/Polypropylene-Cable-Operated-Bath-Waste-and-Overflow-Drain-Complete-Kit-22/3158 I hope it'll help strike a happy balance between a not too high tub and a deeper soak. Essentially, this has a plastic disk that can be installed in such a way as to give the bather extra soaking depth. According to the website: Immerse Feature The new Mountain Plumbing "Immerse" features allows you to have the most luxurious bathing experience you've ever had! It now comes standard on all Mountain Plumbing Products cable drains, allowing you to indulge in a more lavish bathing experience. The expertly engineered overflow has been developed for your tub to accommodate a near additional 2 inches of water. To fully take advantage of the immerse feature, simply fill your tub to the height you have been familiar with. Once seated and relaxed in your tub, the amount of displaced water will rise by approximately 2 inches and remain at this level. This additional water depth added to your tub will allow for you to be fully submerged, covering up your bare shoulders, and resulting in a more luxurious bath. It is the ultimate in getting the most of your bathtub....See MoreWhat’s Your Favorite Tub?
Comments (49)Moral of the story here is everyone has different wants. Back in the 2000's all I would see are jetted drop-in tubs, so I perceived those to be "the best that rich people bought" lol. Gotta take a step back and figure out your personal wants and how you'll realistically use I agree for mobility, drop-in is much easier to use Heat retention, I'm still voting for cast iron. I've owned insulated fiberglass with jets, used just about everything in between, then own a freestanding cast iron now. Realistically, you draw a bath then sit in it for maybe half an hour. I've seen fiberglass/acrylic units with heat pads in them (...why?) to combat this, or you do what everyone has done for hundreds of years and turn the hot valve on low. My last fiberglass tub, the tub would feel a hair colder than the water as it cooled down at the end. My current iron tub doesn't do that, seems to maintain temp longer, but again metal=conduction. Could think resale, or maybe you'll barely ever use it so it's more for looks. Can't go wrong if you do the right thing for you...See MoreHU-787167202
