Studio Garden

The post agrarian landscape of our studio garden focuses on exploring the beauty of plants and the realization of contemporary living. Gardens have been laid out to define space and create and experience of place. A stone cairn been set at the entrance marks this destination. Massive Miscanthus giganteus are the backdrop to the cairn leaving mystery to what lies beyond. A gravel path leads visitor through tall blocks of grasses and forbs immediately provide and intimate reaction to plants. The garden circulation leads guest through plantings to a rear stone patio. The patio is seated to take advantage of long views south to a depressed pasture housing resident Kiko goats. The patio’s stone has been selected for its durability and timeless beauty. Set on a grid the pattern is strong and simple in juxtaposition of the wild garden. A grove of Stewartia pseudocamellia grace the patio along with White Oak to it’s West which one day will add shade to the space. ’. Native and cosmopolitan perennials are laid out in matrix and block composition to mimic natural habitats and showcase the form and texture as well as the colors of plants. Monolithic stone slabs lead guest toward a grand Hickory and Mulberry tree which dominate the overhead of our woodland garden. Here we find refuge from the summer sun among layers of beautiful woodland plants.

This garden in it’s infancy, looks to create dramatic and visceral reactions in guests and bring ideas that are sustainable and rewarding to those who seek beauty.
