Bellevue Mid-Modern

Vuecrest is a community of mid-century modern homes in Bellevue, Washington. Design covenants require that all roofs be gabled or hipped, with not less than 3:12 slope. Our clients sought a distinctive design that would still be approved by the community review board. Turning the gable to the broadest elevation, facing the street, created the desired drama and was embraced by the neighbors. The resulting interior volume allows for high, cedar faced ceilings. Exterior materials—dark gray brick, cedar, concrete, metals—were also selected to fit with community standards. Large sliding glass doors disappear into wall pockets to create a continuous indoor-outdoor flow to a terraced yard with play area, gardens, and swim spa.
