Hi there Nothingness, what part of the world do you live in? Perhaps someone else who lives in the same county or shire bought the same rose and you might find them at a local rose society. Also, if you live in a cold climate, I believe your rose may possibly be less likely to be a China or Noisette, though it could be related to one of those classes. I've grown or cared for in a public garden, all the roses mentioned so far on this thread and am of the opinion that, your rose isn't any of those. Although the foliage and pedicals are quite different, the bloom shape and color makes me wonder if your rose is related to Mlle. Cecille Brunner' which has been in commerce since 1881, perhaps someone might do a search on helpmefind.com of roses bred from Cecille Brunner, or open pollinated seedlings of it. Anyhoo, I went to the vintagegardens.com website which is a very good reference, though the nursery is closed. I looked at all the photos available on Polyantha roses and didn't see your rose there. by the way, I have a few questions that might help i.d. it, How old is your rosebush? -what is the largest it has ever been? which climate zone do you live in? is your rose fragrant at all? -is it sweetly fragrant? -or does it have a spicy scent, or a combination of the two scents? It's so hard to tell. It looks perhaps like it could be either Ipomopsis aggregata or Ipomopsis rubra. I found a source for seeds of Ipomopsis rubra and purchased them. I'm going to look for a source of Ipomopsis aggregata too. ha ha. The red liatris looks gorgeous, but the flower does not seem to have the individual tubular flowers as this has. Danielle, yes, this is my friends garden. His yard is STUNNING. He moved this past summer so I can't wait to see his new place. He's a perfectionist so everything is so neat and orderly. Mary Jane, this year we will be going to Iowa again. I wish you were much closer you would be welcome to come along. We have so much fun that I can not even describe our outings. We laugh and then we cry, one of my friends when she laughs hard she snorts and then we all laugh harder which makes one of the older gals...um...leak a little...which makes us break out into fits of giggling again. We've been doing this for the past 11 years and I'm worried it may be ending. One of the girls moved to MN and one of them found out she had cancer. I sure hope not. I like it, and depending on what the seller will take, it's potentially a great deal. In the ad it looks like a wine rack in the square opening of the cabinet, is that right? I'd have a lot of fun figuring out what to display every season in the open section at the top. If it doesn't work in your dining room you might think about it somewhere else, like a bedroom. What I don't particularly care for, but it would be easy to change, is the leather covering and nailheads. I'd prefer to soften things up with a fabric upholstery, probably printed, with a fabric trim or piping replacing the nailheads, rather than keeping the men's-clubby look it has now. But that's something you could always do in the future.
