Yes, planning on seeing in full size imax. we are not action film people, but from the reviews this film includes techniques other than CGI.

I did read the first 30% of Emily Wilson’s translation and there is some very current language such as ”well,” but I don’t recall mom or dad being used— that does seem a bit clunky.

Nope, won't see it. Saw the preview when we saw Disclosure Day , and it looked violent and gory, nothing that I care to see.

Possibly later when it's streamed, just out of curiosity. But based on the deafening aural onslaught, clunky dialogue and clumsily inserted protagonists's potted biographies experienced during Oppenheimer, not in a cinema. Not a Nolan fan.

I'll wait and stream The Odyssey and The Iliad back-to-back some day.

I would have to make a trek to see it in a theatre with the proper Imax settings, so I'll probably give it a miss. The actors are certainly promoting it to the best of their abilities, though.

Not only was the movie incredibly long, there must have been 20 minutes of trailers for no movies I’d even be slightly interested in. I worry about our young people becoming desensitized to such extreme violence. My grandson leaned over and told me there was a preview being shown that he said was so disturbing that people elsewhere were leaving the theatres! So be prepared to close my eyes, which he also planned on doing - it’s a horror film and he’s not a fan either. While it played there were audible reactions from the audience, so it must have been bad They don’t ever say the name so I don’t know what it is. Be forwarned!

vgkg, we loved it. Classic Spielberg, like Close Encounters and ET. If you like those, you'll like this.

I just finished listening to Stephen Fry's Odyssey, an interpretation and story-telling version of the original poem, so I will try to see it. Many books and movies have been updated versions of the Odyssey, like Ulysses, O Brother Where Art Thou, Circe, The Penelopiad.

I'm also not a Nolan fan. I've seen two of his films, Dunkirk and Oppenheimer. Both are on subjects and settings I've read much about in good books. I found both movies to be wanting, having missed essential and interesting aspects of both subjects that would have made the films much better, in my opinion.

Especially Dunkirk, where the magnitude of the beach evacuations were portrayed with a disappointingly small and paltry crowd of extras. I realize that today's productions finance can't match the massive crowd scenes of extravaganza films of yesteryear and that was a likely problem they faced, how to go about it, but I think the end result was REALLY poor. Oppenheimer, similarly, I think the choices made of which morsels of his life to include and how to portray them was disappointing.

I'll probably be interested to see The Odyssey when it's out of the theater run. Based on prior experiences with his films, I'm in no hurry to do so.

I wasn't looking forward to it because I don't like violence, long movies or have any interest in the Greek classics. But my husband was really into going and bought tickets to the first showing as soon as they went on sale. I figured at the worst, I'd get a nap. Well, the three hours flew by and I really enjoyed it! It was NOT done with CGI. The production details were a big part of what made the movie so amazing.

There were not yet any reviews posted on IMDB before we went, but I read the trivia section on the movie page and that knowlege very much enhanced my viewing. Even if you don't see the movie itself, read that and you'll get a feeling for what made it great.

BTW, I'm not a fan of big screen IMAX. We went to see it in a regular theater. But the fact that the projectors were for 70millimeters meant that there were not a lot of previews or ads. They went straight into the movie.

I've seen and read about the movie. It's not my genre, so I won't see it in the theaters. But another reason is that there are some actors whose performances touch me so deeply, that I avoid seeing them play other characters. Elliot Page is one of those actors. He was amazing in Juno, and I can't get past that. My loss, I'm sure.

I've felt the same thing occasionally in tv as well as movies. I felt so strongly about Vincent D'Onofrio's performance in Homicide Life On The Street and Juliet Stevenson's performance in Truly, Madly, Deeply, it was a long time until I could watch them in anything else.

@Feathers11 I had the opposite reaction to Page in the movie, but that's a whole different topic. It's a pretty minor part in The Odyssey, so probably wouldn't be a problem for you. I also loved Juno so much!

It was a good time. Unlike Oppenheimer that should have been shorter--I can't think of anything in this movie that could have been cut out. The Cyclops scenes were gross but otherwise I never would have thought it was too violent. Awful trailers? There was one red band for Digger but the others were R with 1 being a horror flick. Local theater advertises that the main feature strarts 25-30 minutes after posted time so folks can't whine about sitting so long before it begins.

@Rho Dodendron all the many fight scenes with people getting stabbed and whacked weren't violent to you? Different sensitivities I guess. I don't ever see advertisements for movie theatres so had no idea there were so many trailers, so I gotta whine! I figured if my very dialed in teen grandson was warning me about the horror trailer because of things he'd read about it, that I'd heed his warning. We both just closed our eyes, lol. I also closed my eyes during much of The Odyssey...too violent, gory for me! Glad you enjoyed the movie. I love Zendaya and Tom so much, so I really enjoyed seeing them together.

Oly yeah I kinda remember closing my eyes but I can't remember what scene. If your Grandson gives you a warning--yes indeed heed him!
