The weather where I live is and has been delightful, as it usually is. We're spending this week in a few places where that can't be said.

A high around 77 for us today in SoCal. If only we could have this all summer.

Ditto for more northerly parts of the PNW as well. We have been experiencing abnormally warm weather for our area for the last month, and currently to the point that local weather people are reporting "heat advisories" and cooling shelters are open. Certainly not like the projected heat of Texas but uncommon for us.

We are behind on rainfall totals, too.

Here in my area of the heartland we've had about normal or a little under normal temps (high 70s to mid 80s) lately. We did have 3 days over 90 in March which was really strange. Rainfall has been above normal as has the number of tornados around the area.

It's supposed to heat up towards the end of June with highs around 90.

I haven't had to water my garden at all so far and the farmer's fields are doing great. The corn should start to tassle and put on ears in early July.

I'm sure that 124°F references the heat index which includes humidity effects, not the direct air temperature. The humidity has been insane in my area due to continuing rains. I was at WM a couple days ago. A couple 2L bottles of Fresca (off the shelf, not from a refrigerated display) had condensation on the exterior upon arriving home (less than 2mi distance from the store). My spectacles fogged a couple times recently upon going outdoors. My A/C is set at 77°F daytime, 76°F night ... not refrigerator/freezer temps.

KW, I love having my windows open all night. I agree that it can be hot during the day but if the windows can be open, it's nice.

I have (and always do) great sympathy for all of you dealing with high temps. My favorite weather is between 70 - 75* with low-ish humidity, which is not often actually what we get in MA. BUT!!! this week has been absolutely fabulous for me! 70* every day, low humidity, bright sun with pretty white clouds, rain coming tomorrow (will be welcome) and overall = just perfection. I am very happy. =)

Of course, there was a brief & unrealized tornado watch last week...

I love having my windows open all night, too. And the day. I love listening to falling rain at night.

Our usual summer daily temps. are around 20-24 c. /68-75 f. I dislike when it gets any warmer than that. We’ve really only needed AC in the last few years, and I really don’t like it.

The rain this year has been quite nice. Fresh and cool. And everything is so green and lush.

Heat advisories here for most of the past week and going forward. On Friday, heat index was around 110F, so our playcampers were only outside in the morning, and spent the rest of the day indoors 😟

Night time lows are in the 80sF, so no relief - and it's only June!

I dread summer the rest of the year, and I think today is the solstice, so the days will be getting shorter. We had 90s in May here and in June, a few days of suffocating heat plus huge humidity, which I cannot stand. Today is in the mid 80s with low humidity, which is doable. We are in a horrible drought...over five inches below. Already, my plants and bushes are drooping, and I lost some to last year's drought. Every single thunderstorm misses us, and I feel like we're the dessert around here. Tomorrow is forecasted rain so I wish for a week of it.

Lily, I will cross my fingers and say a prayer for you to get your much needed rain. We got 4" of rain just the other morning!!!! That is unheard and not normal. The weather is really messed up in my humble opinion.

I visited my mother this afternoon, 20mi distance. Dad (RIP) selected at the last replacement a variable-speed A/C system that does a bang-up job controlling the humidity. My spectacles fogged a couple times when I went outdoors to her trash bin. Indoor temp 73°F. She doesn't understand such technical concepts. I remarked about it, she said "Oh, I guess that's what's wrong with my glasses sometimes when I go outside."

lol about the foggy glasses. We visited DS and family who live outside of Chicago in August 2024. I walked out of the VRBO every day, and my glasses fogged immediately! We spent a day on a boat, and it was still AWFUL. Later, I was told the weather was 118 because of the "heat index"..My sister and BIL were with us, and wanted to see ND; we walked a bit of the campus before we just gave up. I live where it can be hot, but NOT humid, and it cools off 99.5% of the time by 8:00. I'm not built for heat and humidity!. I no longer visit in the summer! My hat is off to you people who survive it.

Adding to above: we've lived in our house for 39 years. We never used the air conditioning until about 10 years ago. Now, it's on several days/nights in the summer and early fall. The climate has changed.

We have a vacation house. Few people put AC into these houses when they were built in the 1980s; luckily, our former owners did. It gets used. My sisters both had splits installed in their nearby vacation houses two years ago. The installer said they are now having to add AC to altitudes that never needed it!

I was 22 when I moved from the midwest to San Francisco. It took awhile to get used to not having a furnace or air conditioners or even screens in the windows. For me it was good to experience things different from what you are used to.

San Francisco's weather has changed since I moved away in 1984. There used to be a "rainy season" usually the end of the year until early April and then you could count on sunny days the rest of the year. I understand it isn't like that anymore. I remember there being sunshine every day for two years when there was a drought.

Christmas just wasn't the same being warm and sunny.

I agree that the climate has changed.

My family has had air conditioning since 1964.

We didn’t get or need AC until about 5 years ago.

I must say, our outdoor thermometer has had a real workout these past few years. 🤠

That's nothing Rox, only a 75 degree swing. Here we get 110 degree swings from winter to summer. What does that C at the bottom stand for? LOL

Our forecast is 89 F today & 63 F & rain on Saturday. Hard to keep up with bringing the patio furniture cushions inside & then back out.

The weather guessers here in KC are giving the temps in both Fehrenheit and Celcius the last couple weeks so the WC fans in town don't have to do the conversion.

Maybe that should become permanent.

Having recently been in NZ, and with my daughter currently living in Canada, I'm taxing my brain with converting... it's kind of fun when I give it a moment :)) I round the celsius temp to make it easily divisible by 5, then multiplying by 9 and adding 32 gives a good enough approximation for me !

Yesterday was an "impact day'', and most of the state would get an inch or more in downpours. We got nada! The story of my life. Now out to water for the gazillionth time this year. At least it's cool, but Europe's heat will arrive for all of next week, along with the humidity. Days are getting shorter, and I am counting them till fall.

Here, too. We've had nice rain -- by "nice" I mean 1-2x/week soaking rains, not torrential storms. Which, IMO, is perfect -- enough rain to keep vegetation growing well and enough pleasant, sunny weather on the other days to be outside enjoying the rest of the time.

I don't put on the AC unless it's really humid or 90+ degrees. I have terrific air flow through my house and a lot of windows, even in the mid-upper 80s I can open all the windows and let the breezes do the cooling, the flow is from one end of the house all the way to the other. It's lovely.

It's the humidity that hard to take for me; I can deal ok with it during the day (lovely breezes and all), but I have trouble sleeping if it's ridiculously humid. Which it often is during the dog days of summer.

ETA: It is supposed to heat up next week, mid-upper 90s expected here. And with that, likely high humidity. Guess the AC will be back on. Right now the system is switched to heat, believe it or not -- it's been low 50s overnight pretty consistently, that's chilly for this time of year.

My windows, too, are open 24/7 unless it is raining. I much prefer it to the heat or A/C. Our nights have been in the 60's which is delightful and if it gets a bit hot during the day I have my oscilating fan on me. Really the only downside is that it is hot when taking the dog out. Short trips to just potty then.

Our heat pump is on 24/7/365. Set at 78* all year. One or both are up all hours of the day or night. Playing with the time and temp does not work. The $ used have actually gone down since I quit setting for night snd day.

I like to keep my house between 60-70 f. 16-21 c. year round.

Geez, Rox, if only ;) You are spoiled living in a beautiful place with good climate.

New England has been pretty okay thus far, but it’s only mid to late June. We had a couple of 90 deg F days — just enough to murder the lilacs, dammit.

In the late spring, way before the flowers and bees, DH sprayed our yard, gardens, edges with the proper dilution of permetrin. So far, I have not seen or been bitten by any deer ticks.

I recently had a good physical exam and pulmonary exam. All good. However, when the air is saturated, the humidity high, I feel that I sometimes cannot catch my breath, as though I am drowning or suffocatiing.
