I forgot about ”ask for directions”!! @shirlpp might win this one. But, with the advent of car navigation systems I think that car conversation between couples has about disappeared!

Not sure what you're thinking of, but I remember an anecdote about people being frustrated by the long wait for an elevator, so they installed mirrors. People were so busy looking at themselves or others that the wait seemed faster and the complaints stopped.
