I'm thinking it was “bury the money.”

I moved into a different Florida home and needed a larger dining room set. We thought, while in pristine condition, six years old, what can we actually get for our current one?

We even it for free to a new neighbor.

After a few weeks, she declined. I decided to put it in a consignment shop that sells higher-end furniture.

It was accepted and picked up on Feb 18. Yesterday we were passing the shop and decided to visit our set. It wasn't there.

I called the store later in the day. She told me it sold within 2 days and tomexpect a check in the mail.

$1,500!

Wow.

Wow, eld!! That is spectacular!!! So great that it sold so fast too. It must have been beautiful. Got any pictures of it?

We have a business like that. It's a big store and has lots of higher end furniture and art work. The longer a piece stays, the mark downs begin. I love to go in and just look. I have no room for anything new but could replace something if I found something I really like. I have donated there too. Some of their profit goes to breast cancer research.

I had my windfall last year when I won $5,000 on a 50¢ bet at the casino.

What Outside is describing will happen to anyone who begins Medicare coverage before starting Social Security. For those not getting some kind of government pension, Medicare has to be paid in advance, quarterly. So thinking of calendar quarters, imagine you paid in Dec-Jan for the Jan-March coverage period. The lottery scratch winnings are still going strong. I got $28 yesterday off a $3 ticket. But not only that, I've had hubby's watch for sale for a while. The watch I liked best I got sized for me, but I'm selling another. As usual, I've had low-balls, but today I got an email inquiring about it. An older gentleman was interested and he came here. I met him downstairs, and we sat in his truck and had the nicest visit. It turns out he has the exact same watch but his is very worn, the bracelet is loosening and the face is all scratched. Ours is in mint condition. Because it was going to such a good home, and we commiserated with our sorrows (my recent loss and his of a son of a heart-attack at 47), I knocked some money off the price. He gave me the cash and then also the extra, and ask that I donate it; (the extra portion). I have it with the buried money and will certainly do that.

I haven't buried mine yet. I need to put a piece of flag stone over the top of it. The soil is so sandy here, the dogs can easily dig it up. Plus if I touch something, that is something they seem to automatically want. I really had to laugh the other day. I walked out in the hay field which is on the far side of this place. I walked around it to look at some tree that was on the edge of the forest. We back up to the Davy Crockett National forest. The dogs went with me. One dog, Scout, went off on her own. When I got back to the barn, I saw Scout zig zagging all over....following the path I had walked. Nose to the ground. She was tracking me. If she had looked up, she could have seen me. Makes you appreciate what a great nose dogs have. A little unnerving that a dog could smell me like that. :)

I hope this does not portend disaster....I buried 2 cents in a pot of plants in front of my apt. When I went to dig them up, I could only find 1 cent. And a buried pecan. I suspect a squirrel might have buried the pecan, it is a really large pot, but why would he dig up a penny? I'm hoping that Those In Charge of Good Luck will decide to grant both me and the squirrel a good year.

This reminds me that the quarter I buried is still out there under a foot of snow. Nonwindfalls yet.

My friend consigned an oriental rug that had been in her basement for years. She got $900 for it!

Salon, what is funny is that I kept saying well even if I get $100. The shop has a formula to keep dropping the price the longer it is on the floor.

When I called, I thought they would say they didn't put in the floor yet. There is limited space after all.

They have beautiful like like-new furniture, but mostly sofas. Maybe that is why it stood out. Also it is smaller scale so better for condo living.

It went on the floor starting at $2,695

It fit perfectly in my last house. I am also going with lighter furniture

for this house.

Way to go! It looks like a rather recent purchase (within the last decade?) and to be in good condition. I'm curious the brand.

It can be hard to get that much for antique pieces these days.

Kendra purchased about 6 years ago. Ethan Allen.

This is in Florida. So, not used year-round. Plus we eat in the kitchen when it is just the two of us.

When I was speaking to the consignment shop, he said clients like dark furniture and like Ethan Allen.

But even they were pleasantly surprised at the quick turn around.

I think people get attached to the DR furniture they bought decades ago, so they bring it with them when they more South. Well, it's *just too big*, even in the next-to-the-front-door 'showroom' space southern builders are smart enough to provide for it. When the owners get tired of cleaning around it, they try to unload it and buy something smaller.

"What sells," might be a question for resale shops. Clearly, this set was a hot item!
