Dancing.

I’m a slow eater, and if I eat alone I may fall asleep at the table especially when the food is so so 😳.

My partners used to say of me that no one was better in developing people with potential nor worse in trying to help people with marginal prospects. The mental and professional stragglers lacking the ability or motivation to do as well as their peers. That was a fair assessment. Sometimes recruiting screens don't work completely and it's not known how someone can perform until they're on the job. Those who struggled weighed everyone down, they knew it, and were happier when we could find them positions (externally) where they could do better and feel better about themselves.

I have little or no DIY ability because such tasks have never interested me. When something needs fixing, I use my telephone. I admire people who like to do that kind of stuff because they not only can spend time enjoyably doing what they like, they can benefit from the end results. (So long as they don't undertake tasks as with pseudo-construction stuff they don't know enough about to do well).

Ditto gardening. Both my wife and I don't enjoy it and can kill anything with our brown thumbs. As with DIY tasks, I admire people who like gardening and who obviously benefit (whether it's vegetable/fruit gardening or ornamentals) from their work. But not enough to want to do such stuff myself.

I am terrible at throwing things accurately. Occasionally I throw something and am right on target, but usually not. I am also terrible at sufferng fools gladly. I got that from my Mom.

I am bad at teaching things, I guess is the best way to put it. I give HORRIBLE directions, and FORGET trying to get an truly accurate recipe from me, though I promise I do my best. That goes for anything really. I easily learn, but struggle to pass most knowledge on.

I am bad at letting things go. But I do not consider that a flaw. If someone has wronged me, why should I forget it or forgive it? I frankly do not believe in forgiveness. I believe in justice. Some people call this holding a grudge but I call it remembering the type of person you are and banking it in my memory in order to assess and future interactions I have with that person. I admit some of the things I remember are ridiculous, but I remember them anyway. I also hang on to good things with the same determination.

I am bad at math. And I hate Excel.

I am bad at handywork/home repairs. I can do simple things with the help of YouTube but I do know when I am out of my depth and need to make a phone call to someone who knows what they are doing.

Also bad at singing but would love to be able to at least carry a tune. Totally bad at liking/understanding jazz, atonal music, etc. Hurts my ears and I have no patience with it.

Not good at feeling comfortable with people I don't know, making small talk.

Very good with words, writing, reading/understanding complex material, gardening, and a pretty good cook too.

Sleeping. I can nap well, but struggle to sleep at night.

Where do I even start😂? I’m terrible at navigation and directions. I’m bad (no, terrible) at reading and understanding directions for anything, like a new gadget. I’m bad at sewing, listening to long, drawn out explanations. Bad at dancing, singing and hiking. I’m a great volunteer, but bad at saying “no”, which wears me out many times.

I am a total idiot when confronted with new technology. Verizon FIOS upgraded our system, and I hate it. The three remotes are teeny tiny and feel like Braille. And I have tiny hands. I have to go through three steps when one did the job with my old clunky remote. I don't like change!

I was always terrible at math in high school. I was finally put in a "business math" class and I exceled! It gave me great confidence and every job I had in life involved accounting and I was very good at it. It made sense to me when algebra didn't. I went to college when I was 37. The College of Notre Dame of Maryland (it's since been made a university) had a Weekend College specifically aimed at working adults. I decided to take algebra to see if it was me or just how I was in high school. I exceled in it and became a mentor to other students (boy, could I relate). I graduated with honors and it's something I am very proud of. I know this is supposed to be about things we are bad at and I used to mentally shut down when faced with learning something new but I have come a long way. Like pekemom, I am always a work in progress.

Thanks, Lucille. I am very introverted by nature. But something really clicked for me in that program. I know the professors loved having adults in their classes. They had life experiences to share and lots of participation. Also it was nice to be able to pay as I went along and incurred no debt. I didn't know at that time how special that was. Many thanks.

I am seriously bad at spelling. I am a poor typist though much better than I used to be. Having a flawed sense of left and right I am terrible at directions. I cant dance with anyone. I can barely manage by myself. I am not a good driver and because I know that I have never had an accident. But I am good with my hands, could do all those dyi things, I was a dab hand at renovating, refinishing and upholstery, tiling and all that sort of stuff. Self taught. I taught myself to both spin and weave and am quite good at it. I can grow things.

Well, dancing....not that it ever was an issue. I was raised Quaker, and dancing is against their religion, so I never learned to dance, and I married early, and going out dancing was never something of interest, but as a teen, myself and others used to go to the rodeos in a nearby town, and afterwards there were always dances at the VFW, and we would go dance with the cowboys, but I was never any good at it.

I am not good at not helping an animal in need. I have always thought if someone doesn't step up to help, then I must. And seems like those animals...or a lot of them, have a way of finding me.

I can easily talk to almost anyone, but I am in reality an introvert, and given my druthers, I prefer being alone. I am not good at phone calls, FB messages ( someone always wants to give me another senior horse that is in very bad condition, and tho I tell people over and over, I can't take more, seldom a week goes by that I am not asked.), I hate listening to voice mails, and everyone who knows me, knows if they need to get hold of me, text. I do read those. I hate talking on the phone. Say what you called about and that's enough. Exceptions of course for friends that I haven't talked to for awhile, but I am not a person who would call anyone because I am bored. (Boredom? What's that?!,). I especially don't like someone who is bored calling to ask what I am doing. So I guess I am not good at communicating.

There are so many things that I don't do, because I am old and I have less of some of those things to deal with. I am not good with technology or change and I lack the interest to learn about it.

I am not good at opening packages, or sometimes even bottles. My hands are not as strong as they used to be, and seems like everything like that is a struggle now. The same goes for handling hay bales and bags of feed. It becomes more of a struggle all the time. I am in very good health for my age...next birthday I will be 80. So I don't intend on stopping. It takes me longer to get things done.

@murraysmom Zone 6a OH . My dearest friend and college room mate had plans to become a math instructor, as she was so good at it, and thought she had what it took to explain stuff so it could be grasped by "others."

Well, trying her very best to get me through some ugly math exams, she decided maybe to set her goals on something far less frustrating!! ( Ha-Ha!! ) I ruined another one.

I had that issue too, more so back when I was working. The darkness and quiet when getting in bed provided the perfect environment for runaway thinking - to reconsider what I'd done that day, what I wanted to do the next day and to ponder through issues I was trying to resolve.

What worked for me was providing a distraction. Early on, my understanding wife allowed my having the TV on a sleep timer, tuned at low volume to C-SPAN. It was interesting enough to focus thinking on, not so interesting as to keep me awake. That worked.

In more modern times, it's podcasts listened to through an ear bud. With a low volume setting so that she hears nothing. The sleep timer set to 30 minutes. I usually fall asleep quickly, such that I don't hear the middle or end of the program I wanted to listen to. The next night, I need to rewind and start again what I didn't finish.

My pod-catcher is set to about 20 podcasts I like and that and having to relisten a few times keeps the backlog full. My wife, out of curiosity, tried it herself some years ago and now does the same as I do.

It does work. You need to find programming that interests you enough to pay attention to but not so much that it keeps you awake.

hobbitmom, that made me laugh out loud. It's not easy to teach others. I was called out for "hovering" when I was teaching my replacement once. It's hard not to but I, too, am not great at teaching someone else all a job might entail.

Well, I answered the what am I good at, so here is the what I am bad at. Bad at driving, especially if I have someone else in car. Bad at sociallizing in a large group. I disappear and stay quiet. Bad at baking with yeast.
