Any hope for my chipped glazed (Favorite) mug?

I am so peeved at myself. I did a very dumb dumb thing. I carelessly put silverware into the sink where someone else had set my most favored coffee mug. Dammit. I created two large chips at the sipping rim. I am so miffed at myself. This mug is my favorite because:
♦ It’s beautiful!
♦ The geometry is perfect — tall, narrow, will keep coffee hotter that wide mug, comfy handle
♦ Holds a good 15 oz.!!!
It is had to find a replacement, I’ve been looking.
Do any of you think the chips can be re-glazed by a potter to make them smoother and less noticeable, even if not the best match?

Perfect handle. Comfortable. (Most mug handles seem to be designed by people who have never used a mug.)
Isn’t she a beauty? Holds 15 oz. and because of the narrow shape, keeps the coffee hot.
I’m very particular about coffee mugs. Good ones are hard to find. I might start a thread, rant about coffee (or tea) mugs.
Think I might be able to get a ”reglaze patch?”
Anyone want to guess who made the mug?

I thought I was the master pragmatist, but you beat me with this :) Thanks for the information about lastingness of CHC, and especially the pictures of the holes in the pot. The extra side holes at the bottom are a great idea I hadn't thought of. The side holes further up-- good idea to get air to the center of the pot. Really useful. So thanks again for the information and pictures. BTW, I use a plain old boring 3/8" saudering iron to make the extra holes. Nothing as exotic as your set up, but it's actually fun punching holes in the plastic (if I hold my breath). Comments (91)Outsmarting the tree rats (squirrels) around my house is a full time job. This past spring I hit on a new idea. When I plant a container I invert an empty wire hanging basket over the container and the plant gets sun and can be watered but the squirrels can't dig in it. Another idea: I bring in a lot of plants to "over winter" under lights in my garage. I have so many that it is hard to reach my hand under the lights (4 shop lights) to the middle for watering. So I bought a pump sprayer with a long wand and it works great! In late winter I add a little liquid Dawn detergent, few drops, to each gallon of water and not only does the soil get wet easier but the worms that are waiting to hatch into distructive pets just don't hatch. Don't know what it costs me to run those four shop lights all winter but I don't care. It is a small price to pay to be able to "garden" every weekend in the garage. Many people have mentioned that they mark their outdoor plants with a "permanent Sharpie". In my experience there isn't a "permanent Sharpie", they all fade and quickly too. A grease pencil/china marker or expensive "no fade" garden center marker are the only markers I have found that won't disappoint you by fading. Eight years ago I decided to learn about gardening so I tapped into my local library. I checked out nearly every book they had on gardening and learned so much. The Gardenweb forums are also a wealth of information and entertainment. There is always something new to learn and I appreciate all of you who take the time to write in your ideas. One last idea from me...I keep a small notebook on my computer table and jot down any idea I find that's new and I will want to try. Little pieces of paper get lost but I always know where my notebook is and also use it when I order "on line" so I will remember the name of the company and the order date. Comments (53)This post is bringing up many wonderful memories. When I was a kid, our family played Yahtzee just about every night when we were on summer vacation (it was one of the few things that brought us together.) My sister and I would quietly stay up well after bedtime to have "Spit"(the card game) tournaments (it was also a great procrastination tool to keep us from homework--which also worked in college.) Our family also played Hearts, Spades, Sorry, Big Boggle (I can no longer find this version of Boggle) and Risk (there were always a lot of hurt feelings with this game.) When I was 16 I went on a bike trip across Maine with two older sisters--we brought a word dice game called Perquacky and played it in the camping area rest rooms (where there was light) at night (I think we only played if there was some sort of vanity shelf or large sink area. I hope we didn't sit on the floor.) Many of us got together this summer for vacation and we had fun with Texas Hold 'Em. My parents and a couple of my sisters really enjoy(ed) bridge. The games I've enjoyed playing with my kids are Scrabble, Cribbage (a favorite for my daughter and I when we are on vacation--we keep score with pencil and paper rather than a board), Sequence, Canasta, Chutes and Ladders, Life, Careers, Battle Ship, Rack-O and some lesser known games. Several of these come in small boxes and use special cards: Quiddler, Rat-a-tat-cat, Frog Juice, and for small kids Panda-momium and Hiss. We were/are particularly fond of Rat-a-tat cat and Frog Juice. Blink is also supposed to be very good. A game my teenage daughter and I got hooked on for a while is Fluxx--which is a card game with a special pack of cards. The rules of the game continually change depending on the card you play. Comments (35)I couldn't believe how easily coffee stains disappeared when I put a little baking soda in the mug, added just a few drops of water to make a paste and give a wipe. It's gone! Not bleached, but gone. And it's just a wipe. No elbow grease wasted, no big expense for special scrubbers, tablets or otherwise. But if they're really scratched up I'd be careful and consider replacement especially if they're deep scratches. I understand how it is to have favorite mugs. Some just hold the right amount, hold the temp well and have the handle that fits the hand well so maintaining the "good" mugs is important....See More
9 months agoI feel your sorrow. I'm a "Don' touch my mug", gal. I did find something on Amazon that look a bit like yours. Set of 4, hold 16 oz. and the handles look a bit like yours.

Boo hoo.Yesterday, I found the same geometry, but different design and glaze.
The pottery mugs I like are pricey— $28 to $48
I found a Starbucks mug w similar geometry, only $13, with a lid.

9 months agoThis is my favorite. It has a crack at the top and has faded in the dishwasher.
It used to say “one can never have too many cats“ and had lots of pictures of different cats. It is 12 oz.
