    Mine was green!

Mine was blue, but didn't have the elastic in the legs....just cuffed shorts.

Then they went to something much better... a one-piece knit thing that looked like a navy striped t-shirt that was tucked into navy shorts with elastic at the waist. Something similar to this...

We had green, and I think my mom bought it in a large size, so I wore the same one through high school.

Solid blue like the photo the year before us...we had Annie's version only the top looked like a sailor...red-white-navy blue.

Ugh @eld6161 that is EXACTLY what we had in New Orleans public school

    1963-1968

My junior high school gym uniform was royal blue with the cuffed shorts but my high school one was the gathered romper style in green, and no, I haven't seen them since then. My mother probably had the good sense to dump them.

I had one similar to the picture @Annie Deighnaugh posted. I think I only used it during freshman year because drill team replaced standard P.E. for me after that and had its own leotard. I have no idea what happened to the gym wear, but I certainly wouldn't have kept it.

Mine was a deep red and looked like that blue one. I don't think we were allowed to keep them. Must have gotten recycled from year to year. ewww.

Blue for me. I wonder when freshman girls stopped having prissy fits about -- gasp -- being seen naked by other girls.

pale blue for me and my sister who was two years ahead of me. Our cousin in between had pink. I have no idea what happened to those horrors.

Is anyone responding to this from the west coast or even just the PNW? I've never seen or heard of anything like these am wondering if it's regional? I know kids attending Catholic schools wore uniforms but I don't know about their gym attire.

We just had to have shorts and a white top (to the best of my recollection) - maybe navy shorts? It seems ridiculous now to require anything other than something comfy to exercise or play in.

1950s (at least) into early 60s when I graduated high school--maybe longer because I'm pretty sure my younger sister wore them too--the blue one piece rompers, gathered at the legs with your last name on the pocket.

I had to check to see why yesterday’s post was commented this morning…. yuck, I had one of those hideous outfits. Catholic elementary school early ’68-76 in NYC. Mine was green. Why?

Public high school in Brooklyn 1967-70. We had those with the cuffed bottoms ( to add even more to the thigh area no doubt) in white. Although my school colors were orange and white, we had our names in red letters on them. The back had our last name and I'm pretty sure our first name was on the pocket. Now I'm going to look for my year book.

and I was actually going to find my year book on 1/22 and maybe even share a photo... then I got distracted. It'll happen........ I have to remember where the yearbook is.

I remembered numerous photos of gym class, but when I got out my yearbook, this is the only one which shows girls wearing the uniforms. This was apparently gymnastics - but anyway this was the lovely uniform.

A I recall, the last name was in red iron on letters across the back.

So this thread will resurface and then we can let it fall idle.

also, the L on the bottom was for LEADER. (those were the phys ed stars. I was not one)

My school sports uniform went through a few changes while I was there.

The oldest uniform was a dress with pleated skirt in a tiny houndstooth blue and white check. The four large pleats (two front, two back) had inserts of red fabric.

The next one, which I owned, had a tunic top and pleated skirt in the same blue and white houdstooth check. The skirt, also pleated as the former one piece dress had been, also had red fabric inserts, and the same red fabric trimmed the bottom edge of the tunic top in a 3” wide band.

Then they introduced a truly hideous uniform, which I am so glad I didn’t have. It was a tunic top and shorts. The shorts, which were a darkish teal colour, were like a cross between bloomers and shorts in that they kind of fluffed out and then were gathered into a cuff band at the bottom of the leg. The tunic top was fire engine red, with a 3”-4” diagonal band across the chest going from the left hip up to the right shoulder iirc. The band was turquiose coloured, and there was a row of yellow rick rack on either side of it. No idea how anyone could think that was in any way attractive.
