Switchgrass and root rot

I'm seeding Switchgrass in pots. That went off very successfully during the hot summer, watering once every other day. But I had a new set of pots in the winter that I also watered every other day. They all died. I'm pretty sure it was root rot, as Switchgrass is prone to that. In the winter, the soil can remain very moist. I'll water my next winter set of pots more sparingly, but I'd like to understand more about root rot mitigation. I've read that an occasional soil drench with 1:4 3% hydrogen peroxide will do the trick. Anyone tried this? Does it work?
