Check your local listings, though. Where I am, the second episode is being broadcast right after the first, so the whole thing airs from 8 - 10 pm on the 25th. Each PBS station mostly decides for itself when to run things.

That makes more sense to air both episodes the same night. I don't know why they gave that info online. As you say, perhaps difference in PBS areas. Thanks.

Thanks for the shout-out that its on, I needed the reminder. I've been watching since the first episode, I quite enjoy it.

Though I do think it's getting tired and maybe needs to be retired. The storylines have gotten very predictable and formulaic, and there's really nothing very new, it all is recycled material in one way or another, just moving along with the changing times. IMO it was a much better show in the earlier seasons.

Watched last night. Great show & very different than the usual episodes.

I watched some of it but agree that it just recycles the same story and frankly last night’s story was a real stretch. Nevertheless, its sweet and I do love some of the characters, especially Nurse Phyllis and Miss Higgins.

Was it two hours other years? I felt it was too long with too many small stories jammed in since they had a few stories in each location. I didn't enjoy the Christmas special where they went to South Africa either. I want a traditional British Christmas!

Yes, I agree. After an hour and a half, I was ready for it to be over. Too many sub-plots.

So did another character leave the series, i.e. the nun who remained in China? When the doctor's wife commented that the last time she went to China, she came back pregnant with Teddy (or is it Timmy?), was this a hint that they would be keeping Christopher (May's half brother)? I know his father demanded his return after the medical treatment. The holiday party seemed out of character, esp. the drag sequence. Not that there's anything wrong with that! just somehow seemed "off". I was curious as to why Trixie was there at all. I think I remember he saying something about her husband not coming because of his son's school.

Wasn’t Trixie’s stepson with her? She referred to a little boy & he was briefly shown. I hadn’t ever heard of the existance of Violet’s - Mayor Buckle - older son in Hong Kong. It seems like Cyril’s & midwife Rosalind’s relationship is moving forward.

I didn't hear Trixie mention a little boy being with her but she could have. I never knew Violet had a son in Hong Kong either. What exactly is the relationship between Reggie and Violet and her husband?(after all these years I should know names). Is he a nephew??

I’m pretty sure I heard Trixie say something about ”Johnty” / what she calls Jonathan her husband’s son / & a little boy was seen. It was a very quick scene. As for Reggie - I had to look it up to remind myself: Per Google -

Fred and Violet took in Reggie, Fred's distant cousin with Down's syndrome, after his mother, Ivy, suddenly passed away in Season 6; they initially planned for him to stay temporarily but grew to love him, and when he was moved to an institution, they worked to bring him back to live with them permanently in Poplar. Reggie's contentment and connection with Violet, especially his calling her "Mum," solidified their bond, leading them to see him as family, not just a temporary ward, and he eventually became like their adopted son, as seen in episodes like Season 6, Episode 5.

I just finished watching it on my laptop. It was a little long, but I paused it a few times, just to take a break and do some chores.

Count my in with others who never knew that Violet had a grown son overseas.

All in all, I enjoyed it as usual and look forward to the new season.

I just finished watching it this evening. Meh bordering on snoozefest. It really was too long and c'mon already -- how many kids are the Turners going to take in? They need a shake-up in the writers room....

Cozy tales like this remind me of a new word I learned a few moths ago: "Anamoia".

It's nostalgia for a time you never experienced. "Midwife" takes some serious themes and re-wraps them into something sweet and safe and predictible. "All Creatures" is another example, along with most Hallmark productions. Their popularity says it all.

"Midwife" has probably run its course. I wonder what new respite will be offered.

I was bored beyond by this year's Christmas special. I've been a faithful watcher since the show's inception; I've bought the series year after year. But, I was bored by last season's offering, and the Christmas special was boring beyond for me.
