It's all Trailrunners fault.....
Comments (30)Looks like this thread motivated a lot of people! I've had the bake stone that came with our Wolf DF range sitting in a box for nearly a year. After reading about Trailrunner's pizza party and various other pizza successes on GW, I figured what the heck, it was time to dig out that bake stone. Used the link to "A Pizza Primer" on the Fresh Loaf site. Made two pies that were very good (froze the remaining two dough balls for our next attempt) but would like to improve the crust next time (need it thinner and crisper)as well as getting the dough to the stone more easily. Couple of questions for those who use their bake stone frequently. First, we had some trouble getting the dough off the peel and on to the hot stone. No surprise there, seems to be the tricky part! Used a lot of flour on the peel, but still had issues. What technique do you use to transfer the pie to the stone? Is pre-baking the crust quickly (a la Trailrunner) the way to go? Second, after baking and cooling the stone is blackened in spots (to be expected). I cleaned it as per the instructions (scraper, then damp cloth when completely cooled) but wonder - will the residue smoke on its next use? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Looking forward to more pizza and breads (soon!)....See MoreAttn: Trailrunner--caldera cooktop knobs question

Comments (5)mercymygift-I think the honing you're talking about is called leathered in my area. I was told that it raised the price on the granite vs the same stone polished. We also went with the white perimeter with black granite (San Gabriel Black) and dark stained island (ours is Merlot so it has a little red in it) with a white granite (River Valley). For whatever reason, the San Gabriel Black isn't as shiny as some black granites--it's much more subtle. Here's a couple pics for you. I'll have better, more up to date photos soon that I can attach for you later this week if you like....See MoreIn memory of Trailrunner's dear son

I am sorry there isn't a choice , as mtn pointed out , to say thank you at each entry . i have read each of your posts and am so grateful to Mtn for finding the Coral Alliance and for each and everyone who has contributed. It's been a really tough day today at DD's house and tomorrow we have a 9 hr, depending on conditions, drive back to Lexington. My DH rides with DD and the babies and I will drive along with all of our son's things that we packed up in Hawaii and brought back with us. The trip will be lighter for all the friends and family that carry us as we travel. Thank you again. c...See More- 10 months ago
