At Kroger you can get just one breast at the butcher shop there. I thought maybe they were something special but the butcher said they are just Tyson, the same as the packaged chicken. But the upside is you can order the number needed which I appreciate since I am buying just for myself.

Others may have different experiences but I think a normal dinner portion of a bone in or deboned skin-on chicken breast is one-half. Unless it's small, one chicken provides two breast portions. If still hungry after eating a breast half, grab a thigh or leg if you have a whole chicken.

Two chicken breast halves would be a large amount of meat for one person's meal.

We usually buy a package of 4 chicken thighs, that's two portions unless they're real large. Thighs are impossible to overcook (unless the cook is hopelessly inattentive) and they always remain juicy and flavorful.

You can buy a chicken breast....only one. Or.... a HUGE chicken breast with rib meat. The rib meat is attached to the breast making it HUGE! I buy a family pack and have the option. I usually buy these boneless and skinless.

At the market where I usually buy chicken, 'a breast' is the whole thing, so I always ask them to split it. But in a restaurant it's usually a half.

I prefer white meat and my husband dark meat so any chicken made at home it works out well for us. I don't care for boneless chicken cuts and never order those in the restarant unless it's comething like a chicken bruchetta sandwich. I love cold fried chicken so I will often get an all white meat meal from KFC with two coleslaws instead of potatoes or get a couple breasts at Safeway to chill. Either way I get two lunches. I also sometimes will order BBQ half chicken at a favorite hofbrau. They offer a half potion to seniors and will ask if you want the 1/4 chicken served as breast and rib or thigh and drumstick. What I really miss is being able to buy bone in half fresh turkey breasts. Used to see them all the time but now I guess they bone and skin them and sell them as tenders.

They're sold at every Trader Joes I've ever been in. They're brined so that helps them not dry out.

They have one breast which is cut into two breast pieces or breast halves or a split breast. If it’s boneless/skinless and/or by the tine it’s on your plate, each piece is a chicken breast.

What on earth is a ” chicken bruschetta sandwich” ? Bruschetta is open face and there is no chicken involved.

DH and I also prefer chicken thighs, always skin-on, bone-in. Cooking four thighs provides a second 'leftovers' meal down the pike. One grocer we like offers 'Pick of the Chick', two breasts, two thighs, two 'drumsticks'. These are good-sized, but not giant (tough) old birds.

We're eating more chicken and pork since the ground beef I find (at ridiculous prices) is worse than tasteless; it tastes 'weird'.

I feel like this is a case of semantics - i.e. 'chicken breast' vs. 'a chicken breast'. The usage I see most is chicken breast - as in the type of meat, not 'a' chicken breast - as in the part of the bird.

@carolb_w_fl_coastal_9/10 I was thinking along the same lines. The breast of the chicken, to me, means the white meat on either side of the chicken. If I say A chicken breast, it's one side of the breast of the chicken (which has two halves). A roasted turkey breast is not both sides, but one side.

My experience is breasts here are sold as halves.

Not the question here, but I rarely, if ever, see boneless breasts with the skin on. I can order them but don’t normally see them out for sale.

Trader Joe’s always has half turkey breasts…bone-in and uncooked. I buy them often mostly for sandwiches.

I have often bought boneless, skinless breasts. They come with both "halves" in one package, I guess one would say. Not to disagree as I don't but if you are in a restaurant and order a meal that says "chicken breast" has anyone ever been served both halves from one chicken?

Well, I stand corrected on turkey breasts! I haven't seen the bone in 1/2 breast style, but boneless, one half sold as a turkey breast.
