Had to be early 1950’s but not sure of exact year. My dad bought my brother an old 1955 corvette when he graduated from high school. White with red interior. Cute car, great condition.

chloe, that reminds me of my husband telling my son he would buy him a ”vette” once he graduated from high school.

When my son said ” Oh wow! A Corvette”

My husband laughed and said ”No a Chevette”

They always goofed around like that.

    Your lucky brother!

    1953

My uncle bought a 1957 Corvette sometime in the 70s but hardly ever drove it. My cousin still has it and refuses to sell it. He's 78 now and doesn't have any kids so not sure what will happen to it when he passes.

1957 is a very good year!

Lonejack, your cousin needs to do a George Swanson

According to the AP, Swanson’s widow, Caroline, transported her husband’s ashes to the cemetery on the seat of her own white 1993 Corvette. The ashes were then placed on the driver’s seat of his 10-year-old car, which had only 27,000 miles on the odometer. Inside the car, mourners also placed a lap quilt made by a group of women from Swanson’s church, a love note from his wife and an Engelbert Humperdinck tape in the cassette deck, with the song “Release Me” cued up and ready to play. The license plate read “HI-PAL,” which was Swanson’s go-to greeting when he didn’t remember a name. As 50 mourners looked on, a crane lowered the Corvette into a 7-by-7-by-16-foot hole.

rox, now that’s love for a car!

In 1955 DH’s dad bought a brand new little black T-bird. DH said his dad paid around $5,500 for it back than. It had lots of extras…power steering/brakes/windows/seats, auto transmission, soft and hard tops, continental kit, etc. He gave it to DH in the mid 70’s. I loved that little car. It was stolen one day and I still think about it.😣

That’s really too bad, chloebud. It would very cool if you still had that car. Actually, it’s very cool that you had that car at one time. I’m sorry that it got stolen.

Don’t know the answer but DH & I had a 75 T top which was a beautiful blue. What I remember about it is that the clutch was so hard I almost had to stand on it to shift. Very hard to drive slowly in low gears.

I didn't look at the answers or research it, but I was thinking 1961 was about the first year I became aware of them. It was the car I coveted the most, but could never afford. Now that I am old and could afford one, I look at all the old men driving them, trying to recapture their youth and I have no interest in that!

The current models of Corvette look nothing like the old classics and I don’t even recognize them as a Vette. I don’t care for them. 1961 is not the first year for sure - they’ve been around longer but I’d have to look it up & that’d be cheating. I’m thinking James Dean era - 50’s.
