Is 6 Point the smallest SIZE of TYPE easily legible?

I wanted to describe the teeny size on some instructions I was trying to read without a magnifying glass.

Googling, I find SIZE confused with FONT. Font describes style, not size. Granted, a heavily ornate font can be illegible in a very small size, but STYLE and SIZE have not been interchangeable in my mind.

So, what is the smallest size typeface that is considered legible to the person intended to read the information?

Tell me, and I'll tell you what prompts the question.
