Remember Phone Tag? It’s devolving

These days I am having to play Telephone Menu Tree Tag.

Call, wait for answer. Try to grasp the directions before I have to # and start over. I have to determine on the fly what category I fall into and keep up with the numbers assigned. Someone will get back to me when possible in the order in which calls to them were received. Sometimes they don’t call back. Today I got a call back that went to my answering machine. The person spoke quickly, and was thoughtful enough to give me the sequence of tree numerals I needed to enter.

No human there, so again I left my name, dob, phone number, DNA sample, PIN num and cat’s birthdate and dog’s blood type.

They will be getting back to me….

Last year, with another place, I needed to book a scan, just for the local hospital. Not simple. I had to call a scheduling number under the big umbrella Medical Center. Usually the schedulers are women working from their home. Well, last year I couldn’t get there from here. I told her that my doctor had faxed the requisition for the study to the department at the local hospital. Well, this person working from home had no way to get it and my doctor closing out his practice and busy, busy busy and they might’ve screwed up a little bit, but I called them had them resubmit the req. The scheduler still didn’t know anything and couldn’t get there from here because she wasn’t at the facility where apparently the requisition was sent. I suppose it was too much to ask that she just call them and have them fax it to her or put it up on the screen or get a homing pigeon to bring it over. Couldn’t do. This was for some simple x-ray just a few miles away.

I gave up and my doctor faxed the requisition to some Boston hospital, and I went there for a simple test. Nothing else to do, right? Most of the people are very nice, but there seems to be a few planks missing in their system.

How do you guys find getting in touch with doctors’ offices or setting up appointments for visits or for studies? Sometimes it’s very easy but it seems to go more smoothly at big city teaching hospitals, even at suburban affiliated sites. I would have preferred just getting out of the shower, into my car and rolling down the mountain
