I saw a headline about that not too long ago as well.

And I imagine it's over 28% of those surveyed - whether that accurately represents the entire country is anyone's guess, lacking the info on how the survey was conducted.

I'm curious to see that compared to how many folks access X-rated phone services - probably similar, I'm guessing...

They mentioned the younger generation as being the largest group. They are all still scarred from the COVID shut downs and all their social media dealings. Face to face interactions cause them great distress. Ironically they also seemed to note these AI relationships are not all that fulfilling as it gets tedious always dealing with someone who only agrees with you!! hahahahah

It all fell apart with the invention of the smart phone. Everything for everyone 24/7.

I recently read a novel titled "Hum" where children were isued personal electronic 'bunnies' that informed, comforted and calmed them -- to which they were of course extremely attached. Adults graduated to small enclosures into which they could withdraw to have their emotional and 'other' needs met. I believe the author called them 'wooms'.

Another novel mentions young adults' attachment to watching reruns of 'Friends' to calm and comfort themselves. This is being called 'anamoia'. It's an emotional attachment or longing for a safely contained, predictable past -- not memories, but a time you never experienced. (And, I'd add, ...one that's a safe *fiction*.)

Hmm...'Downton Abbey' anyone?

I didn't find a link to the actual study to see how it was done or get details on the results.

I don't even understand how that works.

After this article, I'm starting to wonder about people with Alexa in their houses...right up there with the veep and his couch I'd never sit on!! Ewwww!

28% of 1012 is, call it, 280

If 50% are in a relationship, that leaves 500 who aren't

So 280 out of 500, or 56% of single people, have done this?

I read that people are becoming best friends with Chapgpt. AI's never disagree with you. They complement your savvy or tell you how great you handled a situation. People are not that gratifying. Makes ya want to go tell Chatgpt how your day went...not your spouse. I get it! I also get that my spouse is based in the same reality I exist in. Ha!
