We generally get what’s cheapest among Charmin, Cottonelle, Northern, and maybe Cottonelle was the least dusty.

I've seen something similar with Cottonelle.

Anything quilted, generic store brands don't shed.

I read an article not too long ago discussing toilet paper and it mentioned that 'soft' tissue sheds. You can easily see it on the paper holder.

I like the scalloped edges. I just don’t remember which brand they are.

Why don’t bathroom tissue and paper towel makers put their name on the roll? By the time I get there, I have forgotten what brand they are. Bounty and Brawny do that. Besides, I need some white bathroom tissue tubes to stand in for the ”white notes” when I practice handbells.

Kidding, but I do wonder if you got an old, dry package. I get Charmin Ulra Soft from Costco, just rubbed the side of a roll on a dark t-shirt and saw no residue.

And the scalloped tear really works! I remember reading about it before it came out and thinking it sounded hokey, but they do tear cleanly.

During the pandemic I switched to bamboo TP that I read about on these forums, from a company called "Who Gives a Cr*p." The name doesn't do justice to the quality product...it is so great. They donate a lot of their profit to environmental causes and there is no plastic packaging involved (which I love. That's one of my big gripes about TP - how much plastic packaging is involved). Bamboo paper is better for the environment than paper made from trees. Great customer service and my septic guy was totally blown away by how well it dissolves. My last pump out was 3 years after the previous one and there was virtually NO paper in the tank it had dissolved so completely, so it didn't need to be pumped. It tears easily, is a really nice texture and NO dust at all.

I use the scalloped-edged ones and never noticed the dust, but I did notice that in the last batch I bought, the rolls are so big they don't fit in my built-in holder.

I'd been buying Kirkland brand TP in bulk at Costco many years, I picked up Charmin with the scalloped edge there just for something different not long ago, Much less dust on my TP holders and on the baseboards under them. I'd thought cleaning around the holders and the tile floor beneath just a given but the brands really do make a difference, I hope this isn't TMI but I also find the Charmin softer and more absorbent. I know its a silly little thing but I do notice the difference. Maybe I'll try the Cottonelle too and really break my years long Kirkland habit 😊

I’ve gone back and forth between Cottonelle and Charmin. I couldn’t tell much difference in shedding after a while but found Charmin seemed better for our septic system. When Charmin tested their scalloped tear in our area a few years ago, I was hooked. Then it went away and I was very happy to see it come back permanently.

Cottonelle comes in Ulra Clean and Ultra Comfort. Maybe the comfort one sheds because it's softer. I buy the clean version and thinks it's the best TP out there.

Remembers Scotts in the single roll that came in colors? I'm glad we don't have to make that decision anymore. We might have to ask Home Decorating which color to buy.

I buy Charmin or Northern, whichever is on sale or I have a coupon for (got $5.25 off an 18-roll just the other day). They're a little dusty, but not overtly so. I think all toilet paper is dusty to at least some degree, some more so than others.

How so? Both are renewable sources.

Do you have any thoughts about your supporting its supply chain that may source its raw materials from China, instead of the obviously more important consequences of using paper products grown and produced in North America? Like the alternative products you're not using, conventional toilet paper?

Lily, very few of the current products fit the built-in holders in this three bath 1955 house. Yes, I know the bathrooms could use updating but they were so well done originally I hate to tear them out just for a couple of small inconveniences and my own color preferences,

Someone had installed these (or similar) in all the baths - holders tiled into the walls - when we bought the house, I quickly got used to the look and they do solve the issue....

foas -- Toilet paper has a 'Best By' date? Who knew? Looking at the packaging, I see no date but notice that this is not merely Extra Soft; it's ULTRA SOFT. If anything would have aged out it would be the Northern triple quilted mega-whatsis that I bought in bulk a year ago and am now on the last few rolls. No dust.

The lack of response to my question about the allegation stated above that's there's an environmental advantage to using products made from bamboo instead of more traditional North American tree wood sources, suggests it's maybe a unsupported hope that could be untrue. From a geopolitical and domestic economic perspective, there's a decided disadvantage.

As far as dust residue finding its way and accumulating in dark places on the torso, I suspect a once a week shower would help minimize any cumulative buildup. 😁

Who Gives a Crap toilet paper is great - I used to buy the recycled version (not bamboo). Unfortunately they stopped shipping to Canada during Covid and the disrupted supply chains, but thanks to your post I looked it up again, and they're delivering to Canada again. Yea! I can start again.
