I see no real reason to change the way we have always done it.

Well… looking at the lid of my Heinz ketchup, I highly doubt it’d be sharp enough or long enough to poke through. I’d use a knife instead. But why? After the initial opening, why ever take the lid off again to experience the ”gunk”? Before you say, ”To squeeze out large amounts faster, as in for a recipe,” well yeah but then you’d still need something bigger than that bitty hole she created.

A solution looking for a problem, as they say.

Probably so, millworkman. I was just wondering if it keeps the top cleaner. I know, not a big deal. I just never noticed you could puncture the seal with the lid.

Never noticed it before but then I usually buy the Burmans brand that Aldi sells.

I am so sick and tired of the ridiculous finger-wagging on these videos and hundreds more like them. Most of the time, the method ("I learned this from my ..... (insert authority figure here)" takes longer and is no better. Saw a laborious way to fold blue jeans the other day, for example. These helpful hints rate way up there with the tictoc recipes that dump everything into a large foil roasting pan. (Anyone here follow "Chef Reactions"?)

I'd rather take off the paper seal and not have the small hole get gunked up.

I've done that with other liquids, only I used a sharp tool to poke the hole.

I do hate taking that paper tab off the bottle, but I do not believe the hole in the cap is sharp enough to punch a hole. Her's didn't look centered--and pretty sure you now have to use a lot more pressure to get the ketchup out of the bottle. I've never had my cap 'gunk up' so lose lose lose in my estimation.

The internet if full of people telling you have been doing "it wrong" all your life. You have to fill up all that content somehow.

I am thinking of all the myriad things that come with those seals. My milk, peanut butter, mustard, Mayonnaise, on and on.

The squeeze bottles have always had that little protrusion on them. All similar squeeze bottles of all types do, one way or another.

There is a lot of garbage content, not worth anyone's time, on the internet. Probably far more that's useless than not. Many sites that people revere, like what I see when my wife shows me something on Facebook, are no different. Facebook is as good an example of this as any other. It's gone the way of television - starting with reasonable but limited content, and exploding into what was long ago called a "vast wasteland".

Most of these little doo-dad do this and that videos aren't that useful to me. EXCEPT for the one that taught me there are little flaps on each end of a saran wrap box that hold the roll in place. I never knew that. Super useful.

I've seen methods like this before on different products and it was an aha! moment for me because it made sense and I didn't know it was part of the product design. Of course, I can't think of one thing now that I learned that about, but it's been many years ago when I first learned it. I try to buy condiments in glass containers, tho, to reduce plastic use, so it wouldn't work for a non-squeeze bottle. I bet some people will find it helpful, though.

eta: I just remembered it was when I learned about products that come in tubes with a lid with a sharp point on it...glue and hair products mostly. Turn the cap around and use it to pierce the seal on the tube.

Seems like a way to leave more in the bottle when its running out…or make a bigger mess removing it at the end.

It reminded me of the little nub on French’s mustard that holds the cap open. Never knew it was there until someone mentioned it.

I hate squeeze bottles in general and don’t use ketchup unless a recipe calls for it, so will see what DH thinks anout it. If it keeps the lid and top cleaner, I’d be all for doing it this ’new ’ way, especially for a big cookout when a lot of people will be squeezing that bottle. It’s always a mess after that.

i curse that person almost daily!! and what about those tiny jars of spices that are almost impossible to open with old, arthritic hands? every time i get low on smoked paprika, i cringe at the thought of having to buy a new container. i have yet to find anything, including those handy dandy jar openers, that will work to open these little things. i always end up using an ice pick to punch holds in the plastic top to be able to sprinkle it out. it's maddening!!

Now, if someone would tell me how to get aluminum foil out of the box without cutting my fingers trying to ease it out... Couldn't there be a little opening in the middle ot the 'teeth' to grip the foil? (Would that keep you from ripping off the foil?)
