Last winter when I was at my pharmacy, they suggested I ger vaccinated for pneumonia. I told them that I’d gotten that (? two-part?) shot a year before at my doctors. The pharacist said that it was not in the state registry. Hum. Our doctor, a board certified internist) has retired and I forgot to mention the discrepancy to him. Perhaps it is on the thumb drive (of my medical records) hisoffice gave to me. Else, what? I will likey have to go get it. Is is two or a single shot?

Yes. Tdap every ten years. Weird thing is my doctor can't give them in the office anymore. I have to go to the pharmacy for the next one. However he said if I came in with an injury he could do it in the office. All this post pandemic control is nuts. Most people who refused the Covid vax are not anti vaccination at all. They are just resistant to being a science experiment. Much more proactive in many ways about their health than those who just follow what the news tells them to do. My doctors and dentists etc. expect me to discuss my treatments plans with them. IMO as it should be.

I work outside a lot, and used to work on old cars regularly. I get tetanus shots every 10 years, like clockwork.

I got my 10 year booster last week, also at CVS since the doc's office stopped giving it. I was surprised that my arm didn't become painful for several days later as it usually does. No pain at all this go round. T shots have always hurt more than flu or other shots, for me anyways.

Yes. I don't know anyone who would not get a tetnus shot. We do not realize how dangerous life can be. Tetnus will kill you. It's not that difficult to get if you are unvaccinated. I will be quite amazed if anyone chimes in no.

Last November I was at a dog park and threw a stick. As the stick slid from my hand a big splinter dug in. As I tried to pull it out it snapped. As much as I dug, I couldn’t find anything to grasp onto. I went to urgent care and first they asked me when I last had a tetanus shot. Same answer as always, no idea, so they gave me a tdap. They couldn’t find any splinter and concluded there was none, put me on antibiotics and sent me on my way. The pain kept getting worse, and a week or so later it was throbbing all the way up my arm. I dug again and found something to pull out.

Trying to recall my last tetanus shot I almost didn’t remember this story and if asked by a doctor, probably would have accepted another. If I now remember it for 9 more years I’ll get another in 2034. More likely I’ll forget and will get another shot next time I’m in the ED.

If you got two shots then they were PCV15 and PPSV23. Most pharmacies now have PVC21 pneumonia vax as this new version includes more and latest serotypes, and you only need one shot. PVC20 is another option, one shot. I would get the latest version, especially if insurance covers now. Some insurances may make you wait 5years until the next one.

We had to get the TDaP when our grandchildren were born if we wanted to be able to see them before they received their first shots at 2 months. It is because of Pertussis (Whopping Cough) which is so dangerous for infants. We had one 7 years ago and then again 5 years ago when the twins were born. So, that means I will get my next one in 5 years.

We do get them and we're due. It seems like the last time we had one there was pertussis in the area and while not likely to make us sick, we do have babies in the family - its my understanding we could spread it without symptoms. My SILs stepdaughter came over with a new baby and I was able to tell her honestly we were vaccinated that year.

DH can have a way of cutting or scraping himself doing chores at the family farm. No one is farming it but nephew is raising his family there. The fields do have to be cut whether animals on site or not.

I would keep up with mine for all the little indoor/outdoor household repairs I do and the gardening. Some of my vintage tools are not rust free.

Our last tetanus came from our public health nurse. The county budget doesn't permit it now but she always had a supply of flu, pneumonia, shingles and one year even gave all who were willing Hep A vaccines at two dinner parties 6 month apart. That money was diverted to a fully equipped van with meds, free sanitary needles, and addiction counseling, 😒

The political nonsense aside (which hopefully won't last forever), most "normal" inoculations are covered by medical insurance.

I think I got one when I injured my leg on a branch while hiking the AT three years ago. it's on my portal, so doc checks all this every six months at my visit.

Because of the current leadership, I would get all immunizations up to date ASAP. I fear that, although recommended and safe, insurance companies will hop on board with this leadership and no longer pay for any.

Every single vaccination when through a period of when it had to be introduced to the general public. That being beyond the inoculation of test subjects. If those brave people had not gotten the vaccinations we would not have any of the life saving vaccines that we have. No one in the system was trying to kill anyone. There is money to be made for sure but ever since people started getting inoculated for small pox, which included the British Royal family, people have been risking adverse experiences to gain the benefit of vaccination. To do elsewise is to be ignorant of the serious advantages of not risking death for the benefit of not dying from a common disease. How hard is that?

I have read innumerable people thinking that getting the multiple vaccines as taxing to their child's systems because they are not understanding that breathing the air exposes a child to far more pathogens that their infant systems need to deal with. Really. Get vaccinated.

sjerin, that's interesting. My doctor once told me that the recommendation for tetanus vaccination had been updated to every 8 years-- and I was under 65 years at the time. However, after that, I've always been told every 10 years. Looking for internet info, every 10 years is also what I find.

It's been 9 years since my last tDap. Same day as starting rabies vaccination after a bat bite.
