I got one the summer before last because of an infected finger. While at the docs I said hey I can't remember when I had one last, and I garden, and use manures in the garden. The doc said yep you need a shot, past due and make sure I keep up on it in the future. I said I hope to just can't remember to.

It's something I guess all of us need to get if we haven't had one in the last ten years. I would have never thought of it.

I'm bad about not wearing gloves when I work outside, but very good about really washing my hands. A bout of nasty food poisoning turned me into a near-compulsive handwasher.

But I just bought some kind of cool gloves at Home Depot last week, 3 pairs for five bucks. And they're really comfy. I need to develop the habit of wearing them now...

You know, I keep finding myself dreaming of some way to rig up a garbage disposal unit over my compost bin, so I can dump my kitchen pail right into it and have it grind everything into little bits. I guess it's just one of those crazy notions that often fill my gourd, but it is one that visits me often.
As far as tetanus shots go, I have been wondering what kind of critters are in that pile, along with the warm and fuzzy types. I never thought of tetanus though. I do wonder if "quarrum sensing" goes on in there, to cause one species to check out who else exists in the neighborhood, and what that might cause to happen or not happen. It makes me want to learn a whole lot more about microbiology.

If that makes you cry you should read some of the posts over in the vermicomposting pages... Now I've got nothing against the darlin' worms - I've got two large worm bins myself and they are happily chomping away in there. But why you'd throw out good compost material because the worms can't keep up is beyond me. Especially when you've got a backyard to put the compost in. I can excuse the apartment dwellers but only just!

I have been inventing a "composterator" in my head for years, a garbage disposal system in my sink I can feed organic material into that is then directed through a system of piping that breaks the material down as it journeys to my compost pile (or at least sends the material to the compost pile and lets it break down there). I am renovating my kitchen this summer and I'm going to see what I can come up with. Wish me luck.

oooh, me too! The disposal that has been unused but in my sink, will come out this summer when new/old sink goes in. At that point, I'd like to rig this thing up to empty into something, if not the pile directly, to speed things up in our cool climate. I do have a shredder, but have not used it for paper or food wastes. Anyone know if you can?
