AT&T Data Incident Settlement

Are you an AT&T mobile and/or Internet user? If so, have you been contacted about the above settlement? There were two separate incidents that ocurred since 2019. If you were an AT&T customer impacted during this period you may file a claim. The tricky part is you must have a Unique Class Member ID to file this claim. And, that ID is sent to you in an email from the Settlement Administration which has an email address of no-reply@mail.ksadministration.com. I found my email in my spam folder.

Be careful. Scammers are busy on this settlement. Make sure any emails are genuine. Don't click on links until you're sure.

I don't know anything about the incident involved but looking at the link, unless someone had an actual "loss" that can be documented, like perhaps the losses or costs of an identity theft, what remains for "compensation" is a prorata share of the settlement after all claims and attorney fees are paid.

Class action settlements can be very lucrative. For the attorneys, mainly, who do the work for a high percentage contingent fee. "Injured party" payments for members of the class tend to be inconsequential amounts.

AAACK!!! Arkansasgardenboy I love talking with you so much, I really do!!! You are my all-time favorite gardenweb poster! But please please think about WHY welfare rolls are so small! They have five year limits. For everyone. I am totally supportive of the goal of getting people off welfare. I believe that every one of these work training and childcare assistance programs is so extremely valuable. But the fact is that as welfare rolls are shrinking, food banks and homeless shelters are taking in the slack, and their rolls are increasing exponentially. The rolls shrink because families hit the lifetime limit, and there are NO other options for them. They turn to private charities and homelessness. I don't think that it is good for the government to encourage dependency. But I would rather see a certain amount of dependency (which costs us very, very little, taxwise) than see women and chldren homeless and hungry. Anyone would. And that is the only option that welfare reform has given us. You know that many of the recipients who found employment during the ABSOLUTELY UNPRECEDENTED economic boom that took place during the first years of welfare reform, were working for temp agencies, who switched them from job to job with fluctuating hours. Now that they are being laid off, many are not even eligible for a normal amount of unemployment compensation due to their random patterns of employment. What does a laid-off single mom do when she gets no unemployment and she has reached her lifetime limit of welfare? There is no one in this world that I would punch in the face if given the chance, except for Tommy Thompson. It is not only students who are demanding and thoughtless about assignments. We asked the lecturers at our local university to give us a list of items that needed copies prepared by library staff for the next term assignments before they went away. I was told that the pressure of work caused by collecting and photocopying these books would be so great that I would not be able to take leave myself. My husband had the opportunity for us to go for a fortnight free of charge to a lovely holiday island but we had to turn it down. Only a few of the lecturers gave us lists but all those who had not demanded that we prepare their copies urgently after they returned from their trip. Would you believe that they had all gone to the holiday island! I could have gone up there and bugged them for the lists so the staff would have had the work prepared and had my freeby too! I was furious.

Class actions serve a very important purpose. They protect the little guy. While the majority only put pennies into one's pocket there are others that help the the individual plaintiffs get proper redress. Individuals can't afford the costs of going after businesses and corporations. Class actions allow a group of people to file a single claim. Class action lawsuits go back to the 1800's. A few decades ago I was part of a class action brought against a unethical lender. I was not the lead plaintiff. As the case proceeded the lender began to use highly intimidating tactics against the plaintiffs. Because of the way I am I became a pit bull on the plaintiff's side. I even got the list of other plaintiff's and called them encouraging them to not fall for the threats. They were some scary people. They sent scary people to knock on doors of the plaintiffs, many who were elderly or had language difficulties. At any rate I ended up with over 20 grand in my pocket. No way would I get that as an individual plaintiff. An honest lawyer would never fight for that pittance. Honest lawyers don't take individual cases for less than X amount of dollars. The ambulance chasers are the ones who say they will, end up costing the client a bunch of filing fees, pocket them and let the case ride out. Side story: One day one of the thugs showed up at my door. I had a Black Lab mix at the time. Mellow dog, wouldn't hurt a flea, but a big boy. Thug approaches door. I open door and tell him to beat it. He tries to tell me he has a dog too, playing the friendly card. I smile and say, "Oh yeah, then you understand that this boy is a schutzhund." Thug says, "What is that?" I reply, "It means that if I give him the signal he goes for the crotch and doesn't let go." Only I used far more colorful words. LOL Thug immediately turns tail and drives off. A few minutes later one of the lawyers for our side lawyer calls. He is laughing his butt off. The defendant's lawyer called him and told them their tale of woe. Tells he definitely wants to keep me on the deposition list.

I got $8 from a Facebook settlement a few weeks ago. I didn't move up my retirement date with my newfound wealth. Ha.

On the other hand, we got a fairly substantial payment from Toyota a few years ago in a class action settlement. I think that check was $1300 if memory serves.

I got the ATT email in my inbox & thoght it looked a bit spammy. I held onto it a few days & got more info. I didnt click on the email link, but did go to the website & filed for the settlement since our data was breached in both incidents. We havent suffered a loss… YET. I dont expect a windfall, but perhaps it will help buy a banana.

@bee0hio, it wasn’t until I’d read a couple of articles about the data breach that I went looking for the email. There’s nothing about the sender’s address that would make me think it was legit. That made me the that others might ignore this as well. Given the settlement amount of $177 million, I figured it worth filing. I mean, nothing else was offered.

@Ally De, we received a $350ish settlement a few years back in a class action against DeBeers for price fixing diamonds. Not looking for a windfall here.

I wouldn't bother except the news articles say some claimants can expect as much as

$7,000. Usually there's some huge amount allocated that comes down to peanuts per person.

How would you find out if your information was compromised? I'd want *them* to tell *me*, not provide personal info *to them.*

@chisue, you only need to provide your AT&T account number from your bill and the name on your bill to find out if you a part of the class action. Kroll is supposed to email you if you are a part of the class action but their email address, no-reply@mail.ksadministration.com, probably wouldn’t get past most spam filters.
