I was thinking about the "it comes in threes" thing today, and we're far over. Anne Burrell died too, but I didn't see anything about her until today (reminded me of Anthony Bourdain's similar end)

This is craziness!

Craziness that older people die? The only one that surprised me was Malcolm Jamal Warner. Anne Burrell was fairly young too, but apparently her death was ruled a suicide.

Yep. Malcolm was young and a tragedy.

I checked several days ago for the cause but didn't see that. So sad.

salonva, Where the Boys Are was also one of my favorites. Not that long ago my sister and I watched the movie again. We laughed when we saw high heels being worn on the beach.😵‍💫

Exactly. Once past a certain age, elderly people can't die "unexpectedly".

Francis was a bit before my time. I did/do like Chuck Mangione. A bit like salonva, I very much enjoy his Greatest Hits album (which includes "Feel So Good"). But unlike her, I listen to it currently and have all these years. His jazz style is melodic and pleasing.

I've never liked the atonal, dissonant styles that unfortunately seem to predominate in jazz. If a musician wants to play songs that contain every possible key and key change, every mode, and oddball chords and chord combinations that exist, that's fine. I can't listen to it.

And Cleo Laine died yesterday.

She was in her nineties.

Oh, I loved Cleo Laine so much. Saw her several times in concert. And Connie Francis was a favorite in my youth. I enjoyed some of Chuck Mangione's music; my late husband played the trumpet and was a fan. I did prefer the sound of the flugelhorn to trumpet.

I am never surprised to hear people from my generation have died and it doesn't really make me sad...they've had a decently long life and they aren't really a part of my life. Hearing of them often brings back fond memories and gratitude for what they brought to my life at different times.

I loved Connie Francis too, even if she was before my time. In her time (late 50s early 60s), she was the most popular female vocalist, based on Billboard chart positions, until Aretha Franklin took over that title.

I missed her passing because I was out of town for almost two weeks and was off-line during that time.

I just meant it was crazy that "they were dropping like flies". You know, so many all at one time

Same with me, Lars. I do remember hearing her name as a kid, but never paid any attention to her exceptional voice until years later.

I was especially upset about Malcolm Jamal Warner. Costa Rican waters are choppy!

I’ve never seen a lifeguard on a beach there and I’ve been to over twelve of them.

Something avoidable is a double tragedy.

Chuck Mangione, Anne Burrell, Tom Troupe, Robbie Pardlo, Julian McMahon, Young Noble, Michael Madsen, Sophia Hutchins, Helen Cornelius are on the July deaths too.
