Our country has had a remarkable history over decades and centuries of committing blunders of unimaginable significance. We have many "friends" around the world, a group that ebbs and flows, and most of them are so affiliated not just because of any genuine affection for us but rather out of pragmatism. We're the 800 pound gorilla that it's better to be allied with than against. Nose-pinching and covered eyes are sometimes required.

Along the way, enjoying some glee at our expense concerning any particular blunder or difficulty we face is fair game. It happens regularly. A way of feeling better about unpleasant aspects of being stuck in a shotgun affiliation. Funny enough, it rarely happens in the opposite direction.

American isolation from events of the world is the root cause for our hamhandedness. We don't learn from others, thinking that our problems and challenges are somehow unique and ours alone. Which isn't the case. Also because as we wrongly think we are an 800 pound gorilla that other countries need to get along with, we don't necessarily feel the need for compromise and accomodation to get along with others.

Do you not see that attitude in practice as the little boy who considers himself to be the Grand Poohbah of everyone and everything imposes high charges on imports from certain countries, thinking that will bludgeon them into compliance with what he wants?

So, in that spirit of finding glee in our misfortunes, our friend from across the pond, with a phony naïve/coy tone (not!), asks if anyone has seen a particular article. One obviously written with a smile concerning our problems.

I actually read the article just because Elmer became so defensive that I got curious.

Uh, clearly Elmer does not live in Florida. LOL What is going on here was coordinated and should horrify everyone and we can’t seem to stop it. The tiny part that annoys me the most for my state is that any nutter can raise an objection and have a book pulled. And guess what - there is no mechanism in the law to put the book back once it’s gone. They are nefarious in how they craft the laws.

I was encouraged when I read in the article that there are still hidden patriots who are trying to archive all the websites that have been scrubbed and turned into propaganda now. Hopefully other career professionals are able to slow the carnage or at least save pieces of our history and the real data. A wrecking ball can take years to recover from and this one was given a playbook this time to wreck it faster. We shall overcome but the fight is real in Floriduh.
