Why I only put out suet for birds now

last month

If you're like me, you love seeing the birds in your yard everyday. But birdseed is extremely messy (not to mention expensive). Squirrels are very good at flipping a feeder over, and then it's all over the place. I don't enjoy the weeds that start popping up all over my gardens either. With suet though, you don't have these issues. Sure, it has seeds in it sometimes, but not nearly as many as birdseed (obviously). So if you're also sick of the mess, consider putting out some suet this year instead. There are many different flavors, and different kinds attract different types of birds. In my experience, the peanut butter flavor seems to attract the widest variety of birds. I'm sure others have been paying attention more closely than I have though, and I'd love to hear what differences you've noticed (in terms of what kinds different species prefer).
