Early last week i was having morning coffee watching the news. TV has been randomly acting up with broken pixilated screen with scratchy on and off sound. I was busy in the kithen when it acted up again. So i went to turn it off. I heard "Burlap and Barrel", the spice house.

I logged on and ordered without my usual research. Though i trust Steve from the RanchoGordo bean club. They often put a BandB spice in the box.

My usual spice house has been out of a couple things i'm low on. That sealed the deal as well as black lime powder. Lime rich at the moment, i had just put a recipe in my bookmark file.

They came yesterday on our anniversary. Nice gift to ourselves!

Obviously not many spices are grown in the US. But i can't live without. To make black garlic you simmer for 10-15 minutes, then dry in a dehydrator or low oven.

BandB's is grown and dried in Guatemala. Smells divine!

Another excellent product from Wildbrine, Santa Rose California.

I was recently in my hometown for a family reunion. A food desert, on the Chesapeake Bay. I had 3 big Misfits boxes sent direct to my parents door. Easy peasy.

I think Wildbrine is a relatively new venture. I've been making my own Kimchi and sauerkraut for a dozen years. I have some work to do. This is so much better than mine.

I see it showing up in local stores like WholeFoods. Fridge section since naturally fermented. Usually just one Kimchi and a sauerkrate. Not the full line.

I get my black garlic from a local farm that is a couple counties over from mine. The farmers are at the market all summer, but that garlic does not show up till later in the season after they have had the weeks of time to cure and age properly. It's so good and worth the wait :) And leaves my garlic crop free to do other cooking with.

I usually get my dry beans from the bean lady around the same time- another local farmer, she grows dry beans. I haven't had those big ole RC's in the house for a while now, so I might put in a Ranco Gordo order this year. A couple kinds of beans I get in the big ole bags from a tienda, along with dry hominy, bay leaves, and hibiscus flower. I assume most of those probably come from Central and South America regions.

Love Wildbrine, though the jars can be awkward I just put the remnants of their pickled onions, brine and whatever was in it, in the soup. Not too heavy or tart. Their kimchi is mild enough for sandwiches, etc. I've been buying it for a number of years, probably since around the time they were sold. The sriracha is something more like a pickle and very interesting.
