If I Like It...It's Discontinued

It happens with lipstick colors, with soaps and perfumes. Now that I've managed to gain a few pounds drinking this, Nestle is discontinuing Carnation Instant Breakfast. (I buy the powder in a canister and mix with whole milk.)

They want people to drink their more profitable Boost instead. (Tried that. Icky stuff.)

try the different recipes for the copycat CIB.

I hate that! It's so frustrating to get to love a product and then it disappears from the shelf. I'm sure someone else is making a similar product; I hope if works for you.

How do I find the best match for my discontinued laminate flooring?

    Q

    Comments (32)
I did order about 80 bucks worth of T-moldings from slk230red's link. They only take checks or money orders -- red flag there-- but I will withhold judgement until I hear from them and see if they will deliver. When I first started my own business I couldn't take credit cards for a while until I built up revenues so I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt, up to a point. If it's a scam I will order some close-but-not-perfect-match T-mold from HD or elsewhere. My flooring guy says he can make it work either way. Thanks all for the guidance.

HELP something like discontinued RH medicine cabinet!

    Q

    Comments (9)
For size, you can also get customized sizing where cabinets can be ganged together. For example, two 12 inch cabinets ganged together or two 15" ganged together would work where you can add lighting as an option and have interchangeable left or right open doors. It gives you alot of storage over your vanity without looking too wide. And some of these mirrored medicine cabinets have integrated LED lighting, which can also offer a nightlight with dinner function. So, you will not only have lighting from your main bathroom, but an additional light source. I hope this helps

I would venture to guess they will be discontinued at some point - like all other "colored" appliances.

I could write a very long list of products I've loved that get discontinued. I've even at times written to the company asking for a suggestion since sometimes it seems they just kind of repackage ... For the most part, when I've tried their suggestions, they are pretty much close but not there there.

    I feel your pain.

Sometimes while grocery shopping I find they are out of whatever I’m looking for. I feel like I have a sign on my back that says ”whatever she’s getting make sure we don’t have it next time.”

Been there live it!! Bath and Body works had a fabulous room spray I kept in the bathroom. May Bouquet. Sooo floral yet light. I've had a grudge against them since they moved on from it. Carnation Inst Breakfast has a pre packaged liquid --we get snack donations. The kids love it. My guess is it has a ton more sugar than Boost. I know the instant was mostly sugar.

I wish I would have kept a running list beginning from my teenage years! I cannot believe they are discontinuing CIB! I remember my sister drinking that in the mornings when she was a teen and she is now 70 years old! WTH!!!???

I feel like I spell doom for any company that has a product that I LOVE! It will be gone within a year anyway. HAHA! I hate to even find a restaurant that we love because it will be closed down very soon. :( So sad!

I definitely agree with all of you who thinks we are targeted somehow. Mine is makeup products especially. Every time I find products I like, the Estee Lauder company ends ip buying the company out, glamming it all up, and discontinuing the 3-4 products I love. I should have started a list.

For going on 30 years I was a loyal Bobbi Brown user and then it was sold. I think I’m down to one BB product now. And no, Jones Road is not the same.

Darn! I hadn't bought any recently but had a hospital nutritionist tell us one time to buy CIB for BIL when he was having chemo. Nutritionist said it was not significantly different in 'goodness' when mixed with whole milk and tasted better! I grew up on it, liked it.

My discontinued are typically makeup or hair styling products. When I find one I love, I hoard. Thank goodness I have quite a large vanity and don't share it with DH - he keeps his meager supply of personal items in a different bathroom. Right now I have easily two years worth of my fav Lancome neutral self sharpening lip pencil. Same with my light beige every day eye shadow and hair styling gel. Hopefully sometime in the next 24 months or so I'll find replacements I like as well.

I have one unopened bottle of Boucheron Jaipur Saphir perfume. After this many years its clear to me it will not be reintroduced so I may as well use it and move on.

Trader Joe's is a good example of products I love, and poof, they're gone. Some said it's seasonal but that usually makes no sense.

Bobbi Brown was sold to Estée Lauder, but I love her new Jones Road stuff.

There was a hair thickener styling gel that was discontinued, I think it was Redken 06? 10? anyway, there were even threads about it here, both about how effective it was, and about its disconinuation.

My handbell ensemble uses for music stands, a low-profile computer notebook stand from Ikea. Of course, now it is discontinued. I had one in my big river cart, let a little time lapse while I continued shopping, then one day it was gone from my cart, and gone from the river. I have heard other people are looking for it, too.

    Smuckers jelly beans.

Effervé French lemonade, the crystal-clear one.

Finish dishwashing powder. I use it for soaking really bad pots and pans, works great.

You know what's disappeared from the shelves in my grocery store? Caramel popcorn of any sort. There is no fiddle faddle, cracker Jack's, and the third one's been disconnected so long I don't remember the name, OH, crunch and munch. Drat!

Many years ago I bought some sturdy heat resistant plastic cooking spoons from Ikea. They are for me, the perfect spoon. It has the front edge cut straight across and the handle where it joins onto the bowl is solid and about 3/4” thick, so when you are scraping the bottom of a pot of something very thick like jam or stew etc, it scrapes the whole bottom and doesn’t flex. Sadly, they were discontinued years ago and I’ve never found a comparable replacement. I look with no luck every time I find myself in Ikea. The ones I have at home are still gong strong, but I really want one for the unit we have in the city for DH when he’s working and I visit and want to cook dinner.

Im still waiting for Redken 06.

rob333, try Dollar Tree for Cracker Jacks. I see caramel corn at the stores where we live all the time. Odd that it's not available where you shop!

Another thing that is just as bad as being discontinued is when they "new and improve" something. Just recently when I was looking for Jergen's bar soap to see if maybe they had brought that back(they haven't), I found out that just recently they have changed up the long running IVORY SOAP and people are so upset. There are many people that have used it forever and now they are allergic to the new version. Ivory has gone from being animal fat based to plant oil based. If you look, you may still find a few bars of the old, the old packaging will say "so pure it floats" but the new one does NOT say that. Anyway, add Jergen's bar soap to the list of things we really miss! We have used that for many years then POOF, it's gone.

thanks AR! I noticed Walmart and Amazon has them. Sounds like they have the market cornered. My grocer is mainstream, so it seemed odd they no longer have it, but I could see it being a different reason (not that it has disappeared) that they don't exist ;)

So funny- yes tob333 I see in our ShopRite ( as of yesterday) they have displays full of crackerjacks. (3 packs, 2 for $4). I thought about it, just for old time's sake but I never really liked it all that much. In any case, they're definietly still be made.

I did find a really cheap eye pencil that someone here suggested- and found it at Walgreen's. Of course, it was being phased out but when we were on our road trip to Quebec in November 2019 ( just before shut down) as we drove through a few upstate NY small towns , I scoured the WAlgreen's and must have purchased like 15. I still have about 6 unopened., thankfully, because it was discontinued by 2020. Phew!

There was a bra I loved and I stocked up on it but there's a lifespan and while I may have had like close to 20 of them at one time, I'm down to about 3 ( and they're not doing well). At one point Iw as able to find them on ebay or other sources but absolutely gone. I wrote to the company and they confirmed and really had nothing similar to suggest. Amazingly it was playtex which I had never bought before but this bra was, sigh, special. RIP.

The thing is, you rarely know that you'll really love something over time so much, and then there' s no warning that the powers that be, have decided it's going to be history.

Thanks for the commiseration. I've just ordered a six-pack of the 17 oz. powered IB canisters from Walmart. (Reduced to ordering from *there*!)

I've found the liquid Boost, Insure, etc. to have a nasty 'mouth' Sludge-y stuff. I'm sure nursing home staff find it easy to dole it out to patients. The Carnation is so much better. DH used to drink this when he was running late for the commuter train. It kept him 'fed' up to lunchtime.

Sherry -- I'll look for DIY recipes for the Carnation drink. Thanks for the tip.

colleenoz -- I have a spoon that sounds like yours. Mine has a black, heat-resistant, rather shallow, heavy plastic spoon end with a 2" flat edge. The handle is flat, 18/8 stainless steel, about 10" long, with a hanging hole. Made in China. AMCO HOUSEWORKS (trademark), #8325 This is my dedicated 'scrambled eggs spoon'.

PattiG -- Thanks a lot! Now *I* want some RyKrisp crackers!

The OXO Good Grips with kind of ”lines” on the handles. More comfortable to hold than the new ones, and the material has never gotten ”icky” like the newer ones have, and which we are going to have to toss, they are that icky.

bpath, how much do you want that Finish?

    Walmart has it...for a price:

(but it does have free shipping)

I saw some on the river but at such a range of prices, and confusing as to weight and quantity. So this is six boxes at 3kg or about 6lbs each? I suppose that isn’t too bad.

Yes. They always discontinue the stuff that I like, and then I have two try three of four other things before I find a good replacement. So frustrating.

Chisue, can you post what the package looks like?

Is it the same as what you used to buy?

“Trader Joe's is a good example of products I love, and poof, they're gone. Some said it's seasonal but that usually makes no sense.”

I once looked for baking soda at TJ’s with no luck. I asked and was told it’s seasonal…baking soda! I do think they now carry it year round.

Finish. I mean, look at this. It’s ridiculous. Not only that, but each product’s description has different weights: 75oz can be 1 lb, 5 lbs, or 31 lbs (that one shows a 75oz box and says it is alternately 75oz at 1.1 lbs or 2.3 quarts at 31 lbs, or ! 75oz, btw, is 4.68lbs. And they are all unclear as to how many boxes are in an order. Even within one product description, they might say you get one box, or two boxes, or six boxes. And priced at $13, $28, or $49. No rhyme or reason.

    Aaargh!

I wish I could just buy it in the store so I know what I’m getting. The Walmart one from honibaker shows up here in ounces not kilograms, and is not available in the store (it's actually from some other seller).

Trader Joe's has never meant to be a full-service grocery store. And things come and go all the time.

Finish is available in Canada, FWIW. Not common, but still available.

petalique -- Post a picture? Me? You forget how inept I am with computers.

I ordered the IB at about nine this morning. It was at my door at three o'clock. How do they DO that? No delivery charge. It was about 44 cents an ounce.

This is "Carnation Breakfast Essentials" 17.7 oz. in a slim yellow canister with a blue lift-off top. I've probably confused everyone by calling it Instant Breakfast. The canister says it is a Nutritional Powder Drink Mix. I think they should be advertising it AS that rather than discontinuing it. Maybe they plan to continue the pre-made liquid form. Unfortunately, it is a Nestle product.

Directions call for six tablespoons in one cup of milk -- fourteen servings according to the label. I use about half that much. If DH leaves an ounce or two of coffee, I put that in to combat the sedation of my Tylenol 4.

Toronto, thanks! I was just there and had I known, I’ve have gone to No Frills.

I still miss my favorite Maybelline Dial a Lash mascara from the 1980s! Another very old cosmetic product I miss is the L'Oreal Color Supreme lipstick, it didn't have that horrible smell that the Color Riche has. We miss our favorite garlic salt, the McCormick California Style garlic salt. It didn't seem to be so salty like the others. I've resorted to making my own :) Then there's the Dawn dish liquid that recently changed the scent which smells godawful! Like some cheap men's cologne. Why would they change a classic? I loved the old scent of Palmolive bar soap from back in the 1990s or was it 1980s? They suddenly changed that, couldn't stand the new scent which I believe has remained the same ever since. :(

Know what you mean. I started using this Estee Lauder Fresh and Natural oundation about 45 years ago and used it for 40 years. It was perfect. Then I noticed that it was getting harder and harder to find so I wojuld buy four or five bottles at a time. Evventually it just disappeared and a salesperson finally told me it had been discontinued. Haven't been able to find anything comparable since.
